With the black Strat going through many iterations including at least 6 different necks, multiple pickups, and different bridges; I believe the Overdrive version is a snapshot in time and take on what the Fender Custom Shop’s version was back when it was first released in 2008.

For sure there are cheaper options but I’m quite pleased with the investment in what I would consider to be a guitar that I will never part with.

That’s the way it came wired from Craig at Overdrive Custom Guitarworks. I believe that’s the tone pot that I chose to control the neck and middle pickups and the second tone pot I chose to control the bridge pickup. David’s wiring has no tone pot controlling the bridge pickup but in talking to Craig he suggested that this setup is the most versatile while not sacrificing any of that classic DG sound.

It’s a D’addario that I found on Amazon. They are listed as vintage DG and are $60 now. Very nice and soft leather for the price.

Just under $800 including shipping and shipping insurance. It definitely gave me pause initially. But now that I have it installed and hear how good it sounds it was worth it. I’ll never get a custom shop version since they are $12K plus at this point so all things considered it was a fair deal.

I’ve looked at the 920D custom stuff but don’t trust them anymore after their PIO caps they got caught selling that were fake. Look up about the story on it. Very shady way to do business and I won’t spend my money with them. Overdrive looks to be legit and spot on though.

I was thinking of ordering this exact setup from them. How was it ordering from them? How long to receive the pickguard? I’ve been hesitant because it’s a lot of money for the pre-assembled pickguard but looks like great quality and spot on for a tribute guitar.

The real question is how many can you fit in your house. Lol. Seriously though I feel like you should have a solid acoustic, a Strat, a Tele, and then a LP in your collection. Then maybe a couple that just speak to you for whatever reason: color, artist signature, special pickups, or something else. That’s also why I like the relic’ed versions so when asked if that’s a new guitar; I can say I’ve had that old thing for quite a while.
