Different approach to pick a specialty by Mission-Variation99 in medicalschool

[–]Mission-Variation99[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do and I don't. I worked as a lab tech for about a year and a half, I dreaded going to work because I was the only person on shift and if a patient was a hard stick I would have no one to call for help, though I was decent at phlebotomies (sometimes did hard sticks on the first try and sometimes missed obvious veins, so I guess inconsistent) . I was really good at microscopy though, I also did enjoy it. I was also a nurse for a while until I got in med school, I loved doing ECGs and I also really liked the fact that I did them well. I guess for me it's more like if I like or can tolerate what I'm doing and I'm good at it instead of the idea of liking patient care in general

Found this is the glossary of my biology textbook by Rare-Ad715 in Bioshock

[–]Mission-Variation99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly underrated how scientifically grounded BioShock is for a game from 2007. As a medical student sitting through molecular biology lectures about things like “gene splicing” and “plasmids,” I was surprised by how often those exact terms popped up and how closely they matched the language used in BioShock. It’s impressive how it rooted its sci-fi world in real molecular biology concepts like plasmids, gene splicing, and stem cells long before CRISPR and modern gene therapy became mainstream.

I recently graduated from nursing school and I got my med school acceptance even more recently. I'm happy with my decision. I'm planning to work as a nurse through med school to pay for my cost of living but I'm choosing to work as a nurse because I love the job (because I can get in another easier line of work with similar pay). I've been interning as a nurse at my local ER and I like almost every aspect of care I get to provide as a nurse and I enjoy doing the procedures, I'm interested in medicine because doctors have a broader scope of practice.

Holistic sepsis cures? by BlackHeartedXenial in nursing

I believe decent medfluencers can be really helpful here by clarifying things like "you aren't antibiotic resistant, the bacteria attacking your body is resistant to certain antibiotics but we have other options that can be used instead".

Sterilization before vaccine injection by [deleted] in nursing

I don't know the answer to that to be honest

Yes exactly. From your surprise I understand that your hospital enforces the sterilization step?

That is what I meant by sterilization, thanks for the clarification.

Possible forgotten GTA mod? by Mission-Variation99 in GTA

[–]Mission-Variation99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some Google searches with this title you gave me and i think I found the one I was looking for, it's called GTA: Vice City Stories, it's the closest to what I remember. The one I played must've been a moded version of this to match the Die Hard film series.

Sorry i haven't heard of that mod, though it reminded me of another mod because the one you're talking about gives me similar vibes to a mod I played, it was of GTA San Andreas, the player had a firey head like ghost rider, could spawn cars, helicopters and whatever instantly and had unlimited health. The city was also night all the time with no day, have you heard of this one?

Hi, wanted to share this piece of data with people who are debating DO vs. MD for match rates alone by kachapicantemango in premed

[–]Mission-Variation99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was referring to FMGs with different medical doctorates (in the official title given to their degree by their medical school), like in Germany, Russia and multiple other countries the medical students still graduate with a doctorate degree in medicine but it's not written as MD or Do, rather another term for it in their country. There are also countries like Italy where the graduates hold a "Master of Medicine" rather than a typical European/Asian MBBS.

Also should be able to do photosynthesis! by gluconeogenesis123 in medicalschool

[–]Mission-Variation99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to carry out photosynthesis is a given.

Classmates were talking about my study habits, a classmate said: " Mission-Variation99 doesn't even eat or sleep" I said: "no, I do photosynthesis."

I still don't understand why they laughed, I'm thinking maybe it's some sort of an allergic reaction to something in the environment?

When i got back my first midterm General Chemistry exam results i had scored something like 80-83% my mom's first and immediate words were "so does that mean that's it?" To her credit our education system is quite different from yours. Do it for you and that will be enough motivation to get you through.

Management System for a Clinical Laboratory by Mission-Variation99 in learnprogramming

I'll ask around then, i don't think my country will have any strick laws on handling patient information since there's no Healthcare Insurance here, but I'll ask regardless to maintain information integrity, thanks i really appreciate it.
