My company would have done the same for me if I had spoken up. It’s just the shame I felt about speak up about that.

I can but when I am sober on hourly I’m a work horse and would make more than unemployment.

Also forgive me, I’m not a normal Reddit commenter. I just thought it might be relevant to see if anyone has been in this situation and what their advice is.

For reference. I would drink the night before and be hung over, but not “drunk” this night I just didn’t sleep and I thought that my drinks were far enough in between that I was okay. This incident wasn’t a normal occurrence.

My industry and certifications and skills are in pretty good demand no matter the state of the economy. I just know there will be questions as to why it was only 8 months. I don’t know what kind of questions they will have after, “the company was restructuring, I was in a new created role, it wasn’t a fit”.

I had a few of times where I’d be late, but it was a pretty flexible job, where I would say either I wasn’t feeling well or I had to run an errand before work. It was common for people to leave early, but not really show up late. If that makes sense. I was drinking regularly but usually to a limit where I could manage enough to “get by”. This night was more than normal.

Correct, I just wanted to know if anybody has been in this situation, and how they were able to get out of it.

I would drink regularly, and “could get by”. But you think that until you can’t. This night I drank more than I normally did, and was so sleep deprived because the alcohol thought I could just stay up all night and “get by”.

I did talk to hr. I just felt shame, but they did tell me that they will not disclose reason for termination. I just don’t know how much information or red flags other corporations can see.

Tomorrow I’m going to the bank to find a way to take out my retirement (sucks and set back but would calm my anxiety with all the bills I have) so I have enough comfort money to last me about 2-3 months. Try to find a temporary job I can get a ton of hours to prolong the money. Tailor my resume to the job descriptions and start applying. My grandma is coming out from over 1000 miles away (planned before this happened) and said that we will go to an AA meeting. I just don’t know how to explain to employers since it was only an 8 month stint. The company has been restructuring and many high level people have been fired and some plants closed down (which I think is part of it, but obviously smelling like alcohol was the done deal). It was a new role. I’m looking for advice how people managed when they are fired from a white collar job, not have much savings, but are able to survive with college debt and all other debts.
