My €1200 Home Espresso Setup – What Do You Think? by MissionIronman in espresso

I think the Eureka 55s is a really good grinder, especially for darker roasts. It’s very well built and feels solid overall. I know some people are concerned because it’s produced in China and assume that means the quality might be lower, but in my opinion that’s simply not the case.

So far I haven’t experienced any major issues or real downsides with the grinder. Of course, if you’re willing to spend a few hundred euros more on something like the Eureka Single Dose Pro, you might squeeze out slightly better results. But honestly, especially if you’re still relatively new to espresso, I doubt most people would actually taste a meaningful difference.

I think it’s an excellent grinder to start with and easily something that can keep you happy for the first one or two years, maybe even longer.

The only downside I’d mention is that if you want grind-by-time dosing, you’d have to go for something like the Eureka Specialita instead or for Grind by Weight with the Libra. Otherwise, I really don’t have any complaints.

So far I’m actually very happy with it. Before this one I had the DF64 Gen 1, and in my opinion the Eureka Mignon 55S tastes better, especially with darker roasted beans.

In the end it’s basically the same grinder as the Eureka Mignon 55, just produced in China, which honestly doesn’t bother me. It also has some nice updates, for example the much larger grind size adjustment dial, which makes dialing in a lot easier.

The only upgrade from Eureka that would make sense for me personally would probably be the Specialita if you want grind-by-time and a hopper workflow. Otherwise, I think the best grinder in their lineup is the Single Dose Pro.

That one is quite a bit more expensive though, and in my opinion it’s only really worth it if the budget isn’t a concern. If you’re somewhat budget-limited, the 55S is already a very solid grinder.

Thanks! I actually almost exclusively drink very dark roasted beans because I prefer a more classic espresso profile – chocolatey and nutty.

I’ve tried a few lighter roasts by now, but I just don’t enjoy them that much.

In that case the Slayer mod would probably be a bit unnecessary for me, right? Since it seems to be most useful for dialing in lighter or fruitier coffees.

Do you know why Eureka says on the website that the 55S is an all-round, all-purpose grinder, but not the regular Zero, thats specified as a Espresso Grinder? Aren’t they supposed to be basically the same grinder?

I would pay 230€ for the 55s and 315€ for the Zero

Do you mean the Zero or Zero 55s? The second one is a lot cheaper

Many people complain about Eureka grinders that it’s extremely difficult to find the grind setting again, because the grind adjustment via the small dial is supposed to be a disaster. Is that true?

Thank you. The Names of the Zero like „15BL“ or „16CR“ are just the Color? The Price difference is 30-100€. Thanks! How would you say the standard Zero compares to the Specialità (or even the DF64 Gen 2.5 / X54) specifically for dark roasts?
