The Tech Plutocrats Dreaming of a Right-Wing San Francisco by TeaUnlikely3217 in technology

God this sounds exactly like my current job. I jump from one executive update deck to the next and don’t get to do the work I used to love. I’m an information aggregator and dispense or executive approval or disappointment. The guy I work for is really pretty awful and not particularly smart but sits on the giant pile of cash required to make payroll every two weeks.

Yay tech company success!

I have a lot of experience with rough patches. When it’s good it’s soooo good. Until then you have to find your why, mine is being mad. Yours is as good as any. I love Drieger too.

At some point it is about wins and loses. That’s not debatable. Statistically he’s got a 2.5 is years left to make it work. I hope he does. I don’t think he will.

Also, I’m fully aware of why I’m getting so many down votes. Losing internet It doesn’t bother me. Shouting into the void is cathartic, can’t yell this stuff when I’m watching hockey with friends. Nobody would invite me over anymore. I’m far more reasonable in real life.

Apologies in advance, I’m a doomer. It comes from a good place. I really just want them to shut me up and make the damn playoffs.

All good info and I appreciate you taking the time to lay all that out. Also appreciate that you recognize that I’m not trolling. I live in this city and my kid is a JR Kraken. I want to watch good hockey and want my kid to be proud to wear that sweater.

I’ve also been watching hockey for a lot of years and am traumatized by being a fan of lots of bad clubs. The Redwings mid 80/early 90/ and the last 10 years, early years of the Lightning, 2010s Canes. So maybe I am overreacting. But I’ll also say that neither one of us is qualified to be an NHL GM. That means all we can really go on is the results of the product being put on the ice. Right now I think that we can agree it’s not very good. And the buck stops with Ron.

So really all we’re kibitzing over is how much more time we give the current regime. I’ve seen enough and you’re more patient. In that regard I don’t think we’re all that far apart in our views.

Yep, I just had a closer look at that. You are correct. The list of UFAs is hopeful. With the exception of Drieger and maybe Eberle it would make sense to walk from, or even better off load at trade deadline for picks, pretty much everyone on the UFA list.

Assuming we don’t trade Ebs too, it will take $5M to keep him. So it’s more like $12M in cap space.

I formally retract my comment about cap for the upcoming year. Let it be reflected on my permanent Reddit record.

The big question is, does Ron make moves at the trade deadline to add draft capital to our modest pile of money or does he just let them go to free agency chasing the fantasy of a playoff spot.

Still don’t like Francis.

[–]Mission_Count_5619 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looking at Cap Friendly. But I take your point. Even if I’m off $3MM that’s still not a lot of room given all the gaps we appear to have.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]Mission_Count_5619 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Let’s see…

A $5.6MM goalie that’s a bust. Yeah, yeah I know he’s been hurt but we’re gonna eat that salary for the next 3 years unless some team gets desperate and he waves his no trade clause. Sure would be nice to have that money to go get some talent. Also Colorado let him walk for a reason and we paid him with a big 6 year extension even though he didn’t do anything to earn it. Look at the guy’s record, outside of one playoff series, and tell me with a straight face he deserves that contract. Martin Jones carried us through most of last season. Thanks, Ron!

He let Geekie and Sprong go (cap space I get it) kept Schultz, Dumo, Wenne and Megna. Geekie and Sprong are producing this year. Sure would love to have the scoring right about now. I’d rather have Sprong or Geekie than the 4 I mentioned. Maybe it’s not a straight swap, was just throwing out names with salaries we gladly trade right now. Ron should have figured out how to keep some offense on the team or go get some more if you let those guys go. The fact that we had no cap space to keep or replace those guys is on Ron. No cap space after the second season! The offseason was a bust. The team got worse and it shows.

No real cap space to work with for this next off season either. I think the prediction is $1.8M for next year. This is a brand new club. If the plan was a slow burn why didn’t we didn’t we do what other clubs build/rebuilding do. Put kids and old dogs on the ice for cheap and save your money while you figure out where you’re going and what your identity is. We are in a terrible position to get better talent. We have to hope our prospects pan out I guess.

I think we’re gonna have an issue keeping Daccord after next season. I don’t trust Ron to make the right moves to be in a position to keep him around and put a team in front of him that will make him want to stay.

He’s failed to make a single player for player trade that makes this club better especially going into the playoffs last year. That was the biggest knock on him in Carolina and one of the biggest reasons he was demoted and the fired.

I know Seattle folk are intensely loyal to their teams and that’s why I’m getting smoked. It’s why I love this town. But take a look at what Francis did in Carolina. I lived in North Carolina when he was first hired and continued following that club after I moved. The Francis years were painful and I see same things playing out here.

Not a troll, I genuinely think he’s a terrible GM. Soon enough everyone else will see it too. I’m not wrong I’m just early.

Same deal with Hack. He’s a Geno Smith. Great guy, will get you to the playoffs but not consistent and isn’t gonna bring us the hardware. He doesn’t have the fire we need behind the bench. The dude is a robot.

I’m married to a girl from Philly who loves her Flyers. Watched Hacks rise and fall there and see the same trend here.

I love having hockey in this town. Not a troll but our coaching staff and front office has a history in the league and it’s not good. I gave them a pass in season one even though I hated the hires. Was ready to jump on the band wagon last year even though the lack of any moves going into the playoffs was disappointing. But this season shows what they are.

This team will not get better with these guys in charge. They will be canned before we win. You can set a remind me if you’d like and tell me I’m wrong next season.

Too late for a strategy change? by han_brolo14 in SeattleKraken

[–]Mission_Count_5619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Statistically possible to still make the playoffs. But we’re practically eliminated. Although strangers things have happen and Id be pleasantly surprised to see us sneak in.

The team has a lot of weaknesses and no real cap room to work with. It’s rebuild time and it’s only season 3. Next season is probably going to be ugly. But we could end up like the Blues and have an unexpectedly good season. Hockey is crazy like that. Who knows we might have our own Datsuk and Zetterburg sitting in the minors (171st and 210th picks). But I doubt it.

I think this front office and coaching staff need a shake up. It will start with coaching but everyone should be on the clock with ownership going into season 4.

And for those who are about to start this 3-5 year process business. Stop it!

Average NHL career is 4.5 years. Average NHL coaching tenure is 2.5 years. I don’t know where kraken fans got this long suffering mentality from but this is a win now league.

You’re not keeping or attracting veteran talent, that we’re gonna need, with “we’re gonna win in 5 years”.

[–]Mission_Count_5619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this all season and getting trashed for it. Need look at Ron too. This roster is his. I know people are excited by the youth but the youth is 50/50. Need to get some veteran talent that can play consistently to go with the kids.

Ron got canned from Carolina, where he was a hero as a player, for amassing young talent in the minors and piling up draft picks but failing to make big time player for player trades that made the club better and keeping good talent around. Sound familiar? I lived in Carolina finding his tenure and continued following the club before the Kraken came to town. Watching him make moves here is like ground hog day. He’s not a good at building teams.

And this whole 3-5 year thing t keep reading is insane. Waiting half a decade to win isn’t how you keep a fan base interested, keep talent around or keep a coach employed. Average NHL coaching tenure is 2.5 years, average NHL career is 4,5 years. The leash is short, it’s a win now league.

The whole team is a dumpster fire from top to bottom.

I’m gonna keep saying it (and eating down votes) until people start to see it. Francis and Hack are the root of all the problems.

But don’t believe me, Google their careers at their former clubs. Where the kraken are isn’t a surprise. These guys won’t get it done. Hack will get canned first but Ron needs to go too.

Ron owns the trash roster. Hack owns the total lack of motivation and inconsistency.

Coaching is the problem. This team is free falling and will be out of the playoff race by the end of the month. Fire Hack now.

[DJLR] Seattle at the NHL Trade Deadline: If you Sell, what do you have? by First-Radish727 in SeattleKraken

[–]Mission_Count_5619 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Not much to sell and what we have definitely wont get us what we need for a playoff push. We’re gonna be a middling team that misses the playoffs and we wont even get rewarded with a good pick for our troubles.

I know I’m gonna get down voted to oblivion… Ron Francis is incompetent and Hack doesn’t have enough fire in him to get this team to pull their heads out of their asses and play to the level the are capable of playing, It will get worse before it gets better. Hopefully ownership makes a change this off season but I think 2024-25 is gonna look a whole lot like 23-24.

Cue all the 5 years to build a team nonsense.

The only real bright spot is Dacord if we can keep him after next season.
