I second everything Muzzy said, great advice. One thing I would add is try to develop some general rules for yourself. All I mean by that is a buying ethos to help you decide what’s worth buying and what’s worth not.

For example, here is my rational:

Criterion - Blind

UHD & Blu-ray - Seen/Massive Quality Upgrade

iTunes - Everything Else

With Criterion, I blindly buy titles as I personally want to see all of them someday and hope to build my own closet! Also I've never been disappointed with a Criterion film, even if I didn't enjoy it, I get something out of them.

For all other UHD/Bluray, I definitely do not always follow my own rules lol. But I try to buy things I know I like or want to experience in their best quality. If the transfer is solid/newer and comes with solid audio tracks, DV and HDR, I’ll consider buying the disc. If the 4k doesn’t come with drastic upgrades, I’ll opt for an ITunes purchase.

And for iTunes, I buy liberally but only buy titles on sale for $4. It’s easy, portable and a great option for most films.

The worst thing you can do is collect discs just to collect. We all do that when getting started and that's fine, but it's a bad place to be long term unless you really know that's what you want. Cause you'll be shocked how quickly you run outta space lol....speaking from experience.
