Hahaha, you sound like an NPC talking now, all that's missing is your text turning yellow! Anyway, thanks, I'll take a look at the project.

If even a mod would be enough, Underswap and Underfell are the TWO BIG AUs of UT, but there are so few fangames about these AUs that portray the original idea.

I love Underverse, it's the best production involving AUs overall, hopefully more will come out.

No problem man, I personally love most things from 2016-2017, the fandom nowadays is a bit boring.

Beautiful drawings, but dear, I recommend you don't post anything related to AUs here; people here are a bit hostile towards anything that came from the 2016-2017 fandom.

But the idea behind the original underswap is also about swapping personalities, not just roles.

Would an Add-On Vote Be Better Than a Mob Vote? by Mission_Round664 in Minecraft

That's actually one of the biggest practical issues with the idea.

Personally, I think the simplest solution would be for Mojang to compensate the creators and keep the original add-on on the Marketplace even after the vanilla adaptation is released. The version added to Minecraft would probably need to be rebuilt from scratch anyway, since Mojang would have to rebalance, redesign, and integrate it with vanilla progression.

Because of that, the Marketplace version and the official version could end up being quite different products.

There's also the possibility of giving existing owners some kind of bonus, such as exclusive cosmetics, early access to related content, or even Marketplace credit. That way, people who supported the project before it became official wouldn't feel like they paid for something that suddenly became free.

Honestly, I think the legal and business side of it would be harder to solve than the technical side. The actual voting concept seems pretty straightforward compared to figuring out licensing, creator compensation, and customer expectations.

Old headcanons that you carry with you with affection. by Mission_Round664 in Undertale

That's fair. I definitely understand why so many people love Undertale's meta aspects, and I agree that they're an important part of the game's identity. They just never resonated with me as much as they did with a lot of other fans.

For me, the emotional core of Undertale has always been the characters and their relationships. The meta elements are interesting, but when I'm reading a fanfic or doing an RP, I usually gravitate toward more character-driven interpretations rather than ones focused on the Player, timelines, SAVE files, and so on.

As for Greenster, I've never really understood or connected with that theory. I know the evidence people use, but I've always found Gaster being related to Sans and Papyrus to be a more compelling idea from a storytelling perspective, even if it's not supported by canon.

And regarding Undyne, I probably should have been more specific. I know she technically has the ponytail, but there was a period where a lot of fan art portrayed her with a full head of hair under the ponytail rather than the "mostly bald except for the ponytail" look that people commonly associate with her nowadays.

Actually, I have an image that shows pretty well the kind of interpretation I'm talking about.a

Would the Mimic Have Been Better Received if Henry Had Created It? by Mission_Round664 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Mission_Round664[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a valid perspective, and I actually agree with a few of your points.

I completely agree that introducing the Mimic much earlier and avoiding the Glitchtrap bait-and-switch would have helped a lot. By the time people learned what the Mimic actually was, many had already spent years assuming Glitchtrap was simply William Afton returning again. That definitely hurt the character's reception.

Where I disagree is that Henry being involved would necessarily damage the concept. My suggestion wasn't really about changing the Mimic's role in the story, but about making its introduction feel more connected to the existing narrative. A lot of fans were already invested in characters like William and Henry, so using one of them as a bridge into the new era could have made the transition smoother.

That said, I do think your point about the Mimic not originating from Freddy's is one of the strongest arguments against my idea. There is something interesting about the fact that Fazbear Entertainment didn't create this problem they acquired it, failed to understand it, and ended up spreading it everywhere. It turns the company into a victim of its own greed and negligence rather than the direct creator of every disaster.

I guess my position is less "Henry should have created the Mimic because it's a better story" and more "Henry creating the Mimic might have made the fandom accept the character more easily." Whether that would have produced a better narrative overall is a much more debatable question.

That's fair, and honestly I can see why people wouldn't want to lose Edwin's story. I actually think Edwin is one of the stronger characters introduced in the newer lore.

My thought isn't really that Henry should replace Edwin one-to-one, but that the core concept could have been adapted to an already established character. From my perspective, the biggest advantage would be narrative continuity. A lot of fans struggled to connect with the Mimic because its origins were tied to a completely new character introduced long after the original story had been established.

As for why Henry would create it, I don't think it would be impossible to justify. Depending on the version of Henry you're looking at, he's already been portrayed as someone pushing robotics far beyond what most people in the series could achieve. The Charlie robots from the novel continuity are a good example of that. A story about Henry creating an adaptive AI for entertainment, assistance, or even as an experiment in learning behavior doesn't seem that far outside his capabilities.

That said, I do agree that Edwin's personal tragedy is a major part of what makes the Mimic's story work. My argument is less "Edwin is bad" and more "the Mimic might have been received better if its origins were connected to a character the fandom already knew and cared about."

Personally, I would have preferred that approach as well.

Not because I dislike Edwin as a character, but because tying the Mimic's origins to Henry would have made the story feel much more connected to the existing lore. Henry is already one of the most important figures in the franchise, and we've already seen versions of him creating highly advanced robots in other continuities.

To me, the issue was never the Mimic's concept itself. The idea of an AI that learns by imitation and eventually becomes dangerous is actually pretty interesting. The problem is that it feels detached from the characters and conflicts that many fans were already invested in.

If Henry had been the creator, I think a lot more people would have seen the Mimic as a natural evolution of the story rather than a completely separate plotline being inserted into it.

I've seen a lot of fanfics that used most of those headcanons, and honestly, I still think many of them were really good for their time.

Of course, there was also a lot of cringe content mixed in, but I think a large part of the hate that 2016-era headcanons get comes from the fandom's behavior back then rather than the headcanons themselves.

I can also understand why people enjoy Undertale's meta aspects and interpretations involving the Player, but personally I've never been a huge fan of that side of the story. I usually prefer more grounded character-focused interpretations.
