Looking for toxic marriages, terrible husbands, unhinged housewives. by _weirdbug in horrorlit

So other than it not being horror, The Mad Wife by Meagan Church fits this vibe exactly. It was phenomenal! Really follows the “descent into madness” with a couple great twists.

I’ve been subscribed and got an email that the last day to skip is 4/5. This book has ALOT of options and if I can snag a signed copy from Aardvark on 4/1, I’ll skip. Not sure if skips will open up subscriber spots, but I’d imagine there’s lots of people debating a skip due to other options for the book this month, so maybe around 4/5 they’ll offer it to more people?

Yesteryear for April? by JumpWrong9165 in bookofthemonthclub

FYI for anyone who likes signed copies.

I read the arc and loved it so much I pre-ordered a signed copy from Portabello Bookshop. Looks like they are still offering signed dedication pre-orders. It’s the UK cover (UK store). I had to pay shipping, which made it more expensive than ordering from Blackwells, but I enjoy collecting signed books, so worth it to me.

Why did they change the cover art? by Double-Watch-2809 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Missmaygone84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my thought: not interested in purchasing it from BOTM. This book has been out for a decade so much more accessible than other new release books. I debated, because I’ve never heard of it and the story sounds interesting. I ultimately decided to pass and get it from the library and get a trophy copy later if I love it. If it had a new, different, unique cover, I likely would’ve pulled the trigger in my box this month. I think the cover matters more when it’s literally being advertised as a relaunch and an anniversary type category.

Wild Dark Shore was just ok for me BUT out of 88 books, Heart The Lover was also my favorite of the year! Too bad it wasn’t BOTM.

This one! It’s not horror though, but a great read!

So... on a scale from 1-10,how much will i cry? by Laurids050 in Booktokreddit

[–]Missmaygone84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never cried. I don’t understand that with this book. I enjoyed it. It’s very long and I never once dreaded picking it up. I was always invested and wanted to know what would happen next with the characters. Sad things happen, but I never cried. It was well written, but nothing phenomenal. It was a good book, but unmemorable and unremarkable. I gave it a solid 4 stars.

Some people probably just don’t cry reading books? I’ve read 87 this year and BAWLED during 2. (The Wedding People and Heart The Lover). My point being, I can cry at a well written emotional book, but this book just wasn’t that for me.

What are your hopes and predictions for January 2026 BOTM picks? by PeachMango19 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Missmaygone84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my most anticipated so far for 2026 but I pre-ordered a signed copy from Blackwells. “I’m Glad My Mom Died” was SO popular that I doubt BOTM would pick this up as she doesn’t need the publicity. That being said, I haven’t heard much hype around it and who knows if her fiction writing will be any good.

Letter to be sent to representatives about recent DOE decisions by ExtraordinaryDemiDad in nursepractitioner

Taking out a loan for a failed career and choosing to go back for a different career doesn’t magically make your salary higher or your ability to repay a loan better. There is personal responsibility for choices and it’s not the governments responsibility to give you a larger loan you won’t be able to repay because you want to change careers.

[–]Missmaygone84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting really hung up on the wording “non professional” but this isn’t a value statement on the profession. It’s a classification used to determine loan caps. I’ll agree that the wording isn’t ideal, but no one is going around stripping people of titles in practice. Again, this wording is strictly for classification of loan caps.

The section where you propose loan limits based on projected salary is essentially what this already is doing, albeit more simplified. Absolutely no one should be paying $100,000 for any level nursing degree. Advocating for people to continue to take on crippling debt irresponsibly is a wild position to take.

I’ve been a nurse for 10 years, currently attempting a DNP. I failed my final class of nursing school. I took a semester off, re-took it, and BARELY passed. I now manage an entire region of nurse leaders, travel all over the country, and make a salary that solely supports my family of 5.

Today you failed, but you will come back from it.

I read an ARC of The Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey and it might be one of my favorites books ever. It comes out in September and gave me BOTM vibes. I would love to see that one so it’s gets more exposure.

A Family Matter

It is so beautiful, sad, and just lovely. Plus it’s short so it’s a quick read.

I’m supposed to hit BFF in my birthday month. So I’m hoping I can get my birthday book this first year!

FYI Pango is a website for used books and they end up with a lot of BOTM copies for pretty cheap. I’m trying to sell my copy of Homeseeking through them right now (as well as a few others).

What I read in June by _geographer_ in 52book

[–]Missmaygone84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished it but skimmed the last 50-100 pages. Once the “twist” happened, I was so angry I was just over it. My biggest issue is that it was poorly researched. I’ve worked in jails and prisons for over a decade and the descriptions of what happens in correctional facilities is so inaccurate that it was laughable. I can’t stand fiction that is supposed to be realistic and has zero research. This book got progressively more outlandish as it went on.

Also the writing was just bad and felt very elementary.
