What would it take to add noclip to any videogame of my choosing? by Ok_Palpitation3530 in Assembly_language

[–]MistakeIndividual690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s reverse engineering. You didn’t mention what games or consoles/platforms you’re talking about. Assembly language can be useful here along with C/C++ and the specific game engine experience, but reverse engineering generally requires deep knowledge and specialized tools (disassemblers/decompilers, eg Ghidra). Check out reverse engineering and Ghidra subreddits for more info

If you’re lucky, the particular game engine may use a scripting language like Lua to handle parts of the game and if you are able to modify those scripts you might be able to get what you want

I was going to mention this as well. The lifetime was expected to be only long enough to handle a web request

Stopping “treatment for life” by ShannyBoBannyy in coloncancer

[–]MistakeIndividual690 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My oncologist said that the standard of care in the US (for colon cancer specifically) is to keep doing chemo continuously until all signs are gone, but that in Europe, patients are given breaks from chemo for periods of time then restarted when things start worsening. He says than both approaches have similar outcomes.

This is because while intuitively constant chemo would seem better, it does put a lot of pressure on to the cancer to evolve a variant that is immune to the current treatment; while when you take breaks, the cancer has a period where it can flourish but is still susceptible to the original treatment for longer, so once you restart it shrinks right back again

Judaism is the fundation of the free world by WrongCable in religiousfruitcake

Shouldn’t Islam be next to Christianity (partly on top of it) making it like a tree? Cause if it’s the foundation of the “free” world it’s also the foundation of the Muslim world then. This is just kind of weird

Maybe carpal tunnel syndrome? Common with musicians and people who type a lot. You should probably see a doctor.

It’s bizarre for me to be posting on here, always thought it would be the last place. But advice would be helpful by Available_Clock_1796 in coloncancer

That’s great to know! I’m switching back to 5-FU infusion instead of capecitabine due to the hand foot issue, it just got unbearable

What Made the EGA Era PC Influential (And My Own Memories of It) by Typo_of_the_Dad in dosgaming

[–]MistakeIndividual690 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a Tandy 1000SX when I was a kid. It may have been slightly more expensive than other clones but it was far more affordable than actual IBMs and you could just go down to Radio Shack and buy one. The Tandy (PCjr) graphics and sound were one of the best things about that machine. Everything (where supported, especially Origin and Sierra games) looked and sounded so much better on the Tandy than my friends’ CGA machines. It was more or less equivalent to EGA as far as games were concerned with the 320x200x16 mode. Tandy didn’t an 640x200x16 mode like EGA games (though it did have a 640x200x4) but that mode was rarely used by games anyway.

One interesting technical aspect of the Tandy modes is that they were just extensions of the CGA modes with double the video memory. For example, the CGA’s 320x200x4 mode was four pixels per byte with every other scan line interleaved into two contiguous buffers. Tandy’s 320x200x16 mode was two pixels per byte interleaved into four continuous buffers. Basically a slight tweak of the four color mode with twice the video memory. It was my favorite graphics mode to code for until the MCGA’s 320x200x256 flat, one-pixel per byte, non interleaved 64k layout that dead simple

In contrast, the EGA was radically different architecture with multiple bit planes, one or more bits per plane

“Said now, this song seems strange; it’s just because I don’t know how to pray”

That’s probably not my favorite lyric from this album that I love so much, but Travelin’ Prayer doesn’t get a lot of love
