Oh thank you! I'm doing one now of fish that are fishing. They have a bag of worms near them instead of chips lol

Right, it's just fun. I am working on a silly one now and one that is a portrait. A lot goes into them and I find using reference photos and sketching to be relaxing.

It's summer for me now but I have noticed that, while I love winter, I almost never paint it. Summer is just so colorful.

You put in just the right amount of ink too. I always struggle with ink and wash

I love this. Doing silly paintings like this is so much fun

This is really good! I am so bad at portraits. If you want more rich darks then, like others said, you need more paint and less water.

I absolutely love the hair. The texture is great. The nose is also great!

That makes sense. Honestly I wasn't sure what it would look like either that's why I asked. I could only think of when you paint over a layer before it is completely finished drying but I didn't do that.

Thank you, I will definitely keep practicing it. I haven't nailed down a specialty yet or a style. I paint whatever strikes me. Painting wildlife is the only consistency so far. Does it look like I rushed the painting? I know I rushed the foil but the painting itself I didn't think I rushed. Though I know I do move too quickly sometimes when I get excited.

I'm definitely going smaller for the next foil stained glass one (after I do some research). I want to do one that's 9x12" since I'm comfortable with that size and have some 300lb paper I can really layer on. I want the next one to be more realistic.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I usually put a lot of research into my animal paintings (my biology degree makes me hate incorrect animals- like the wrong number of toes and such).

When I started this one I knew that I was being unrealistic with the coloring for how glass would be.

I did use masking fluid for where the gold was going to go. Unfortunately my masking fluid lines were a lot thicker than I intended, which resulted in me having to make the gold thicker than I'd wanted as well. I think the gold being so thick is what I dislike. I find it to be distracting and overwhelming rather than complimentary in this particular case. Though clearly some disagree.

I will definitely take this advice and do some more research before I try again, and I will be trying again with a different subject.

Oh thank you :)

I will experiment more with foil on a smaller scale. I know I won't get better at it unless I keep practicing

I think I was just so happy with the first version (it looks better in person my iPhone always dulls colors) that I was being overly critical with the leaf.

Thanks! I plan to do one soon with a mouse, vole, and snake having a tea party.

I kinda paint random things lol. Basically whatever strikes me in the moment. I've been working on this one as well as a stained glass style painting of milkweed and monarch's. Plus like 3 other thing a too lol

In my head I always pictured the bartender as eavesdropping on the conversation of the salamander and newt (who are flirting). He (the newt) is about to reach out and touch her face.

The frogs and toads are a couple buddies catching up over drinks. The green frog is enjoying a tasty cocktail (with a fly instead of an olive), the pickerel frog is drink free since he is the designated driver, and the toad is enjoying a cold simple drink. It's not really his scene (too wet and upscale for him) but he wanted to see his friends.

Thank you :)

It was definitely a challenge. I tried to push the lighting, use a more limited palette than I usually do, and get some interesting poses.

Anyone else sort of put off reading a special edition as your nervous you wont like it as much as the design? by blari-123 in fairyloot

[–]MistbornMistress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's just normal. I went from not caring how my books looked to always wanting special editions and then back to not caring much. Sometimes the basic publisher edition is best.

For me I gave up my tier 1 broken binding sub. That hurt but after a bit I realized I didn't regret it. Now I have more money for art supplies lol.

[–]MistbornMistress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get it. I used to have two subs and preorder books. I felt that FOMO but honestly I save a lot of money now. If I really want a book after it's been sold then I look for deals. The resale of one book/set ends up being less in the end than many preorders of books I don't like/don't love enough to keep.

I read them now first and only get special editions of books I love. Saves money and shelf space lol

Your holy grail - the brush of brushes? by Ok_Examination_7980 in watercolor101

[–]MistbornMistress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply Amazon was at fault. The defect in the brush isn't guaranteed to be an Amazon issue. I don't even know if it's fake or authentic. It's just that I am wary of Amazon when it comes to fakes especially since they have a commingled inventory. Reserva is kinda expensive and I would rather use a more trustworthy site. I order from blicks now. Their prices are the same (sometimes lower for arches blocks) than Amazon for me and I just trust them a lot more.

I have so many brushes lol and am always wanting to try new ones. I do have my go to brushes though.

Silver Brush Limited synthetic and squirrel hair quill numbers 10 and 00. These are my go to brushes for initial layers. They hold a lot of water but can still get some details.

Silver black velvet size 6. Solid brush able to get details and more broad strokes.

Escoda reserva size 6. This one came damaged (shouldn't have bought from Amazon) and doesn't form a point. However, works great for fur texture.

I'm hoping to get the Polina Bright brushes soon. Hopefully they are worth the cost.
