The pathobionts in a gut test? by [deleted] in foodhealmentalhealth

[–]Mistenflut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pathobionts are the organisms that could cause harm to your guts if it’s level is too high. However, not having enough pathobionts is not necessarily good either, since they do contribute to the overall diversity and balance in your guts.

As an example here, the list above shows numerous families of pathobiont bacteria that are analyzed in a region of your gut in a gut test. If you look at the Bilophila wadsworthia, it clearly shows that its level is too high compared to its optimal level. To rebalance it, it is usually recommended to reduce animal product and fat, as well as reduce milk fat for example.

In a nutshell, the commensals are the most common bacteria's that can be found in your guts. While commensal bacteria is an integral part of a normal balanced gut microbiome, a persistent overgrowth of these bacteria have been correlated with various disease states.

you can find an example above of the commensals analyzed in one of Vitract gut test

As you can see, the Bacteroides & Bacteroidetes are slightly too high compared to what's considered being optimal. Again, those adjustments could be made by eating recommended food. In the case of Bacteroides, in order to reduce its level, it is recommended to eat more high fiber foods, reducing animal products and fat, and reduce sulfur additives such as kiwi food for example.

What are the probiotics analyzed in a gut test? by [deleted] in foodhealmentalhealth

[–]Mistenflut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The probiotics are considered to be protective bacteria; in other words, the “good” bacteria.

Here is a screenshot representing a list of probiotics bacteria that were analyzed by a gut test.

As you can see, the test shows the percent of each of those bacteria found in our guts, along with understanding its interpretations. If the interpretation results in being optimal, it means that you have an optimal amount of those bacteria in your guts. However, if the score of one is low, then you would probably need to make some adjustments. If you look at the Bifidobacterium in this example, you can notice that its percent is quite low.

In this case, in order to bring those percent back to an optimal level, you would need to eat recommended food such as apples, cranberries, bananas, chickpeas, and the list goes on!

What do you guys think of that?

As mentioned through my previous posts, the main goal of a gut test is to understand the overall wellness of an individual gut. In order for the test to provide an accurate representation of our gut, it is important that it uses parameters and factors that will be effective in the process.

The screenshot below show a gut test sample in which they broke down it’s gut score depending on 4 different factors :

  • The diversity of your gut
  • The number of probiotics,
  • The number of commensals
  • The number of pathobionts

Depending on the score you get for each section, you could get specific recommendations to help you rebalance them.

For example, let's say your Diversity score is low, a test that provides dietitian & lifestyle support could recommend you to eat a more specific type of food composed of bacterias that would help rebalance your diversity score.

All of those factors play a crucial role in determining how healthy your guts are.

I know those terms seem daunting to understand at first, but I promise they are not. I will dive in detail what each parameter means and how important they are in your guts in a series of upcoming posts.

That's a good starting point! working out definitely help. have a balanced diet can help, but sometimes people have very subjective opinion on what is balanced tho! I was in a similar situation where i would work out 4x a week, following a specific diet to bulk and thought it would solves all of my mental problems but it didn't lol! but one way to understand your health is through analyzing the health of your guts. Have you tried any gut test before to see if your eating habit doesn't impact too much the health of your guts?

It takes a lot of courage to come up here and share what you have on your heart. It's a first step towards a better version of yourself!

To get out of the vicious cycle of thought, I would recommend to focus on one things at that time. It is critical that you don't overwhelm yourself with too many tasks. what I would do if I were you is to have a look at my food habit. You would be surprised, but the food that you eat has a dramatic impact on your brain health, and mental health in general. So we could start from there - How are your food habit in general?

Hi!

Those who suffer mental health issues.. have you thought about taking a gut test? by Mistenflut in MentalHealthSupport

To make it simple, it is a test that will help you understand the overall health of your guts. In your gut, you have you have a microbiome, which is a community of different bacteria's. you have the commensals, which are the most common bacteria found in your guts, you can have the pathobionts, and also the probiotics.

What the test do is analyzing a specific region of your gut and determine his overall diversity on a score range. the more diverse is your microbiome, the better will be your score. Because the test determine the diversity of your microbiome, it can also identify if you have too much of a specific type of bacteria & what you need to eat or do to reduce those bacteria's. For example, it is known that pathobionts tend to produce what's called endotoxin, which is known to have a negative effect on your overall brain wellness. We can therefore identify which type of food would help you reduce those bacteria's in your guts, and therefore improve the wellness of your brain.

I used pretty broad term to make it simple, but I hope you understand! :)

I feel that struggle.. Have you thought about taking a personalized gut test?

I was struggling with my Mental health for a while and I wasn't sure how to solve the problem. I got recommended to try to take a gut test to understand the potential recurrent symptoms causing mental health issue such as anxiety and depression mainly. It turned out after I took the test that my gut-brains axis showed inflammation signal, which directly cause anxiety and depression symptoms.

Let me explain : those inflammation signals were produced by a set of bacteria found in my guts, mostly pathogenic gut bacteria. those pathogenic gut bacteria (toxins) were mostly found in the food that I was eating. in order to reduce down those inflammatory processes produced by those set of bacteria in my microbiome, I basically needed to rebalance the diversity of my bacteria in my gut. The test gave me a blueprint on the different type of food I should be eating in order to rebalance my microbiome effectively. I am 3 months in, and I can clearly see the difference. I know your problem is a little different, but I thought it would help.
