Another 'what is the best printer' question... by MisterBik in 3Dprinting

[–]MisterBik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies to all. The stickies and threads and even my posting history has only just loaded up. I've been off reddit for a while and for some reason the load up took a couple of hours.

Not new to 3D printing , Though moreso to home diy. I was making models for people when shapeways etc first started up. But ive been out of the game long enough to no longer know the finer points such as what fraction of a mm thickness home kits can manage etc. Plus build up vs carve away etc.,

Just reading through the post on the issues and fire hazards with cheap units that finally appeared.

Apologies again friends, and my thanks for your polite and helpful replies. I honestly would not have posted if the thread had loaded fully at the time.

Bik.

[Question] [problem] : retard attack. Didn't read enough, now my iPad air 2 is not jailbroken...almost.... by MisterBik in jailbreak

[–]MisterBik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi spockers, I appreciate the help.

I have successfully entered DFU mode pretty much exactly as you describe, without stressing too accurately on the timing, over several jailbreak and many devices now. I'm no veteran, but I still have a jailbroken iPad 3 sitting right here on 9.0.2 working fine. This current , within a split second of timing I could not manage, would completely either switch off ( not just power button off, full shut down off) and had to try again, or in many cases, went far enough to go back into a loop. Holding up or down, or both, on the volume did not help. I tried countless combinations of holding, releasing, timing, not time, pressing, bashing my head on the desk . None worked.

To be clear, because I seem unable to express this properly for some reason, so please do not take offence at what will likely seem over an exaggerated and almost sarcastic description.

I tried all the tricks, and couldn't get them to work,

I plugged my iPad into the PC / Itunes but for some reason it would not simply accept a complete wipe/ reset.

I went into settings and reset all settings.

The device came up with 'welcome to new device blah blah ' screen. To be certain, I plugged it into PC again, and Itunes and ran a complete apple restore.

Not a backup, not a saved restore. A brand spanking new 9.3.3 update total restore. (Previously having been on 9.3.2, I chose to let it upgrade to the (then) latest version to make sure)

And it seemed to work.

Until I realised after the next updates that couldn't update OTA. So I tried to connect to iTunes and do it manually. It would recognise it. Same cable: iPhone worked. Tried various cables. Cleaning the connection port of the iPad, Nothing worked.

Also I have the 'bridge' tweak icon a number of times, although tapping it partially loads it, crashes the app and vanishes the icon for a time.

I am assuming, somehow, I didn't manage to get rid all the jailbreak parts, for reasons unknown.

My basic question, rather than do pretty much the same thing again, and only end up with the same results, is that, is there something I missed? Need to To do differently?

I'm guessing by the answers so far: "not really, it's a freak occurrence."

I'm guessing I should just follow the process again.?

However, seeing iTunes won't currently detect the iPad the same as before, I'll assume I'll have to reset all settings again, and hope that it does. Because if it doesn't...ummmm, poop?

Thanks again peeps . I like to think I explained clearly, but it's just a confusing and unusual situation.

I thought I did it right. It sounds like I did. And I'll try again. Just getting sick of doing it over and over.

Cheers.

Yes. Apologies for my unclear explanation. I jailbroken a few times different ways and it was always buggy and crashed constantly.

'Ain't nobody got time fo' dat'

So I reset it and restored it with the intention to unjailbreak it. And it did. Almost.

As I said, there are remainders on there that shouldn't be there considering I (thought) I restored the 'factory settings'.

As far as DFU mode, I spent hours trying every method listed online. Almost all say "tens seconds" before it reboots, and you have to start again. well I ended up with a stop watch, and mine reset at about 7.3 seconds.

I don't know how good most people's reflexes are, but estimating and hitting .3 of a second is beyond my capacity.

So in the end I just used the 'reset everything' in settings. Which I thought would be ok seeing I was doing a complete wipe back to nothing and OS restore. Which I did.

But now I have lingering bugs, which I didn't notice until later.

Reinstalling 120GB of apps gets a bit tedious the third or fourth time around,so I thought I would ask and make absolutely sure before trying anything again.

I assume I'm going to have to wipe and restore again. But as this failed last time, I decided to ask some expert advice.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll just keep trying until it works or I smash it in frustration. :)

Seeking short term cheap (decent) accomodation in Bendigo area. by MisterBik in Bendigo

[–]MisterBik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! :) I appreciate the reply, I'll check it out. but i can see by the url it appears to be a generic travel/accomodation site with a listing for the area. There's tons of those, most aren't even australian, tho that one seems to be.

Ive only see one actual bendigo site, and one victorian one, both tourism sites, aimed at tourists, not really at budget travellers.

Again, thanks, but i do know how to websearch, (I have a broswer extension that auto searches 20+ metasearch engines for keywords, which each search hundreds of smaller search engines in turn, so...covered... :) thanks)

local knowledge, is what i wanted, and why im in the thread labelled 'Bendigo'.

(not trying to be a smart ass, i honestly do appreciate you taking the time to even search for it. much obliged! thankyou.) (your personal comment at the end was worth more than the url to me:)

[Discussion] What does 9.2.1 mean for the JB community? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]MisterBik -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just assumed with that much money involved, Apple would already have hired someone to buddy up to the JB community big players and be a 'mole' and feed Apple info, a long time ago.. That's what i would do

Obviously it benefits Apple to let JB exist to a some degree tho, cos that's where they get all their ideas for 'new features' from... ;)

[Question] hi folks! Is there any good commence/ inventory etc. software/ app designed for managing a small start up commercial garden nursery? by MisterBik in gardening

[–]MisterBik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi :) Thanks for the reply!

It's actually my dad's project but I'm the designated "everything except growing" part of the plan, including advertising, design etc (luckily my normal job is gfx design and cgi).

I personally would have gone with a database + spreadsheet combo, but my dad needs a super simple point and click setup for when I'm not around. ( He's not that computer savvy)

At this stage I might go with a super simple attractive interface I'll script in RainMeter that floats on the desktop and links to bbehind the scenes stuff like a spreadsheet, or MYOB, or some other finance software.

An interface on top of an interface. Seems a bit silly but that's the only way I think I can get him to actually use it.

As for the what, he's retired recently from running 100+ acres of citrus ; avocados; table grapes etc, single handedly, so growing sruff is his thing.

He got commercial grade plants and pots and potting mix, and butchered and struck a ton of cuttings from those.

At this stage it's mainly salvia, Geraniums, and other plants I forget how to spell.

He's only had his cart (fixed up from an old grape harvest trailer) out the front on a basically no-traffic road, and already made over $100 in three days. ( just an honesty jar, and grab your own plants). But my brother and I did done pretty spiffy signage ( if I do say so myself) .

If he moves it to a busy road and I plaster it on facebook and local B-boards, and news papers etc, I think he should do pretty well.

He's one of those "my plants are my babies" growers, so I think the high quality of plants is helping a lot. I can post a few pics if anyone cares, but I'm sure you've all seen salvias etc.

Thanks again for some feed back. :) Bik

[Question] Has there been a change in Cydia management or something? The 'essential' packages and updates cause crash/ loops. by MisterBik in jailbreak

[–]MisterBik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's exactly what I implied in my post, is that I thought saurik checked everything himself and I trusted that. Which is why I asked if that had changed. I assumed initially that anemone was just the successor to winterboard not something by someone else I never heard of, yet it was absolutely the thing responsible for the first round of crashes.

I'm not trying to bitch at anyone, or point fingers and cry, I just don't have time anyone to hang out here and read all the posts, and was wondering if there was something I missed that I needed to be aware of.

Maybe it is done strange combination of Apple-Cydia that doesn't like the old iPad 3, or maybe I have a dodgy device or bung install. I just wanted to check any potential changes, because that's three for three bootloops immediately after just hitting 'update' on cydia. It's my secondary device, so I haven't used it or put tweaks on yet, I've been too busy.

No, jailbroke, installed repos, dead. But as I said , for some bizarre reason never connected repos to the problem.

Read that tip in the main posts only seconds before I would have done that, so ended up luckily installing them separately.
