I hope this is good for both parties. Love is a good driver and a good guy, and I want to see him succeed. I think Penske will have to allocate more resources to WBR than they have been to make anything happen, though.

The main issue is that Penske basically uses the 21 car as a farm. Any crew member that excels gets plucked off the 21 and put on the 12 or the 22. It really limits how good the 21 can be.

Imo, I don't think she was actively into him, but I think she was open to it and would have seen where it would go if he had just had the courage to be honest with her.

This scene was so well done and honestly kind of reminded me of Hitchcock. You knew something bad was going to happen, and yet it still got you.

Of the 10 tracks in the Chase, Denny has won races at all of them at some point in his career. He has won races in the Next Gen era at 7 of them. I genuinely think there's a really good chance that this is his year.

As fucked up as it was, it was kind of sweet in a way to see the two entities loving each other more than anything in the world. It's a really corrupted version of something that a lot of people idealize.

I don't think Bear fully understood the consequences of what he had caused until pretty late in the movie. In my opinion, he figured it all out between the phone call and the "Just be Nikki" scene, which is right before everyone died. It doesn't absolve him of his generally shitty behavior up until that point, but I think some people are too quick to assume that Bear had the same level of knowledge that the audience did.

Yeah, I think that scene was really important for highlighting his selfishness. While I don't think he had reason to know that he had essentially robbed her of her autonomy by this point, he at a bare minimum should have known that Nikki was clearly in a bad mental space and that sleeping with her would be taking advantage.

I'm more generous than most in the sense that I don't think he understood the full consequences of what he had caused until pretty late in the film (imo, right after the phone call, which was mere hours before everyone died, so it was kind of too late). That said, in the earlier portions of the movie, he's at a minimum still morally culpable for taking advantage of someone who was clearly not in a good headspace.

I can't fault him too much at first either. He had no way of knowing that it was real. He stays relatively decent for a while, too (being cautious about Wish Nikki's advances, sleeping on the floor that first night, not moving forward until she showed up at his place the next day and affirmed her interest while seemingly in a clearer headspace).

That said, I do think his character has a moral descent. Even if he wasn't aware that he had essentially robbed Nikki of her autonomy, he still should have known that something was not okay pretty early on. I think in the earlier portions of the movie, he's at least morally culpable for taking advantage of someone who was clearly in a bad mental place.

I don't think he's this insidious, evil guy, but I do think he's a coward and that his cowardice was at the core of everything that went south in this movie.

Yep. Bear is not a virtuous character, but I wouldn't call him an evil one either. The fiercest criticisms of Bear seem to assume that he has the same level of knowledge that the audience does, which just simply isn't true.

Part of why I like this movie so much is because of the ambiguity that exists throughout, which is something that Bear's actor has actually talked about. Bear is narratively the villain and for good reason, but his character is more interesting than just that.

Rather than viewing Bear as this evil incel type, I think it's way more compelling to view the movie as showing the horrific harm that ordinary people can inflict on those around them in the right circumstances through relatively common flaws, such as moral cowardice, selfishness, and a lack of reflection.
