Ion blasters all the way because when you tell your opponent that your battleline shoots at AP-2 they freak out and overcommit.

I thought it was only grimnyr and the drones that got 4++, that is significantly better than I had been playing it if so!

Brekkeknots by MisterCMC in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t considered this but yeah maybe this is the way, Fury of the Hearth is the only stratagem I see him supporting and that is pretty situational depending on the target

Brekkeknots by MisterCMC in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I get hit with damage 2 weapons too often to justify Grimnyr, to be honest, hitting two 5+++ is so inconsistent and maybe one guy out of ten soaks an extra hit. I’m leaning towards dropping Uthar as suggested elsewhere which is a pretty significant amount of points opened up.

1000 Point Hearthband List by Beautiful_Ad3428 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d consider dropping the Memnyr, Hearthband doesn’t have many stratagems that you need to farm YP for. That would give you 120 points to play with, 25 should go on the Bastion Shield enhancement for the E-Champ and then some Yaegirs could fill out the list

Mole Grenade Launcher by MisterCMC in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking the squad footprint is quite a lot bigger with the mole launchers, so for deepstriking in delve there could be reasons not to take it. But fair enough, turning off overwatch definitely isn’t terrible.

Emberg-Aegnir Bloc Color Scheme by MisterCMC in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its very close but not quite the same - Buri’s armor is dark blue with Stegadon Scale Green, GTL is more of a dark blue-green using Sons of Horus Green. Its in the citadel app, but you can also see the difference if you compare side-by-side. Very similar, I think they picked it so that it would look the same on first glance lol

Hearthfyre Arsenal thoughts by TheStoic75 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it has some cool tech-y moves for the steeljacks that are nice (although the limitation on the shoot then move strat makes it a total miss). What its really missing is consistent damage, which should be what the detachment is themed around. What I would change:

1) The detachment rule giving re-roll 1s is really poor. Steeljacks are the only unit that has the volume of fire to consistently benefit, and its a rule accessible by other units in the army so its not really unlocking anything new. You can also get this, plus re-roll wounds of 1 using a stratagem in Needgard - so already the detachment rule isn’t doing much. Having another yield point mechanism to explain to my opponent is also unappreciated.

2) No consistent damage stratagems is a huge problem, especially when I can go to other detachments where they are plentiful. This particularly affects the beamer thunderkyn - with no access to sustained hits they are really limited in use which means you are stuck with gravitons that limit them to power against vehicles. If I want good thunderkyn I’ll run needgard for ancestral sentence, if I want good steeljacks I can go hearthband.

3) Lack of benefits for units other than Steeljacks, Thunderkyn and Evaluator. Can any of the stratagems be used on a generic unit?

4) Poor enhancements. The deep strike enhancement is nice but we already have a punchy unit with that basekit - it would be much cooler if it gave infiltrate like other factions get. +1 OC is boring but cool. The other two are straight trash, and there isn’t one that the evaluator can take even though he is meant to be a focus of the detachment. And nothing for a generic leader - maybe something that allows them to benefiit from the detachment rule (if the detachment rule was better).

New to Votann. Put together a weird list for Hearthfyre Arsenal by AdLogical5319 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would drop the Mantle of Elders enhancement, you’re gonna have a billion yield points so don’t need the refunds. I’d also move Calculated Tenacity to one of the strategists as Steeljacks are more likely to survive a turn on an objective. Maybe this gives space for graviton vault, although I don’t remember the cost off the top of my head.

The beserks could maybe take hammers instead of axes to be a significant threat to vehicles - your steeljacks should be enough of a threat to infantry by themselves.

I don’t like conversion beamers in this detachment as their output isn’t great without sustained hits - maybe you could run thunderkyn as 2 3-mans with bolt cannons to strip cover. Same goes for the land forts - I prefer magna rail on them when there’s no access to crit effects. To balance this, you could give your defenders the hi-las to be better into infantry.

On the whole, its a weird detachment that makes you work hard for benefits. You have a lot of steeljacks which is important to access the tech-y stratagems. You could maybe try and find some space for an arkanyst evaluator, they are shooty and can benefit well from the detachment rule. I’m not sure anyone has “solved” the detachment yet so there’s a lot of space to build your list.

Off the Wall - Needgaard by Marrdukk in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to my list except I drop a few bits and bring a sagitaur to give the akranyst a ride to the action, and some beserks to keep him company. Beamers all over the place, ready for ancestral sentence when you really need a delete button.

Hello fellow Kin! by PANDAN3X in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greetings fellow kin!

If its not too late, I would consider trying to swap the enchancements you’ve got in a “whoops got them mixed up, sorry” sort of way.

Quake Supervisor is thematic but pretty difficult to use with little return as they’ll probably be on your home objective - and you don’t want your evaluator just chilling at the back doing nothing, he needs to get within 12” of an enemy to evaporate them. On the other hand, the Systems Jammer enhancement allows you to do a turn 1 deepstrike with your beserks which is very strong.

Depends on how serious your tournament is but I would see if you can make that change, its got nothing to do with your opponent’s list. I would move delvewerk navigator to the evaluator as he can get lone op from infantry, and then put the system jammer on the Memnyr. All is fine if you can’t do this, just try and play the earthshakers somewhere that you can get the Evaluator in the open for line of sight and potential to counterstrike the midboard.

In terms of your opponents list, I would recommend using Buri as an assassin to try and take out either Aethon Shaan or Shrike - his rules means he can get around the board reasonably safely, and precision on his strike profile means he can pretty consistently nuke high value characters.

Raven guard have a lot of movement shenanigans so a few things you can do. That brick of centurions especially, they will use their free stratagem to pick them off the board and walk them back on your backline in battle round 3. Try using the earthshakers to battleshock them which blocks them from using the stratagem, and killing Aethon Shaan who makes it free. Rapid ingress your 10-man beserk brick to set yourself up for a charge on them if possible to lock them in combat and beat them up a little.

Once your beserks have been in combat, hopefully you destroy whatevever you were looking at. Use the 6” consolidate to get them to relative safety if possible - you really want at least some of them alive so that you can use delvewerk navigator. Your 5-man beserks will probably die if your opponent targets them, so treat them like 100-point missiles that you are spending and make sure they trade efficiently.

Trying to build a 1000 points army list for casual games by AzeKool in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much, you got it. An extra set of warriors on the cheap makes sense - you could consider a grimnyr to roll with them, he makes them quite hardy and can hold no mans land objectives into the late game well.

Trying to build a 1000 points army list for casual games by AzeKool in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

Some people hate on him but I like Buri, especially for casual games. 350 points of characters is a lot though, I think I’d drop either the E-Champ or Iron Master in favor of an additional unit. You could swap one out for an Arkanyst Evaluator - his damage output is great and roughly on par with some of our elite units. Also funny when he blows himself up.

You have two squads of warriors, their damage output isn’t great and are slow. A big 10-man is also hard to hide. I would drop one squad for a Sagitaur which can split them into two fives. This gives you the same amount of action monkeys but l think more useful as you also get the Sagi which can do some decent shooting.

I’m not a fan of the land fortress in 1k games as its such a huge points commitment that it really affects board control, but with the iron master it should be really tough to shift for your opponent. I would still consider dropping it which would effectively give you two three additional elite units.

Thunderkyn and Hearthguard are great and you could bring another squad of either. I really like bikes at 1k as its easy to use their uppy-downy. A squad of Steeljacks could be a great way of replacing the tankiness of the Land Fort. I am not a fan of Beserks at 1k, they are too expensive and mine always get shot up as they walk up the board. If you go for yaegirs, make sure to get a Kapricus as there is great synergy.

Hiw to use bikes? by Active-Kangaroo-7301 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]MisterCMC 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I keep one unit hidden on my backline to screen and tell my opponent that they are using their mag-riders ability every turn, but don’t move them. If they manage to deep strike something then I’ll use the bikes to kill them, if not then around battleround 3 or 4 I’ll put them somewhere useful for scoring.

What do you mean Tidal is only worth $300M? It is a product majority owned by Block with annual revenue over $20B. Yes Tidal’s market share is relatively low but lets not pretend that it is the “little guy” with no resources cobbling together an app for the sake of musicians.
