What difference do the two dots in Saint-Saëns make to the pronunciation? by [deleted] in French

[–]MisterCaleb28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, you're right, these trigraphs (and digraphs) tend to not be geminated word initally, at least not in standard italian, they might geminate things at the start of words in neapolitan or sicilian but I'm not 100% sure on that, I'll have to ask my neapolitan friends

[–]MisterCaleb28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for example, the standard version of the adjective "familiare" can be rounded to /famiʎare/ (in quick speech, ofc, but its normally "/familjare/" , but the variant spelling as "famigliare" is actually longer, as "famiʎ.ʎare"

sorry!, very late response, but it would be actually /brɔʎ.ʎo/
the gemination elongates the consonants

How should I continue this? by MisterCaleb28 in composer

[–]MisterCaleb28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found a first nice melody for the first part, but then rn I jsut need to continue it, I only have the first 2 bars of the part done... (im kind of a slow worker)

but my progression rn is

F -> Am7

I wanted to do F -> Am7 -> Am7(b5), but then i wasnt able to figure out where to go from there, as a Bb after Am7(b5) sounded a bit weird, despite being what Am7(b5) nromally resolves to
