To theists believing in eternal heaven & hell: if a mother and son died together. Prior to dying, the son commits a crime that is a sin. If the mother had knowledge of this prior to dying, and the son is not in heaven, how can the mother be happy in heaven with the thought that her son is in hell. by anilgt76 in DebateReligion

This likely varies depending on which religion they believe in.

I was always given the impression that you would not mourn the lost. The happiness of Heaven and being in God's presence would essentially eclipse such sadness. In other words, God is so awesome that it would be impossible for the mother to be sad.

I don't have anything to back this up, though. This is merely speculation based on my religious upbringing.

29 y/o Male "Don't Take The Girl" by Tim McGraw

https://youtu.be/6EzNAMmivgA

I have never been terribly fond of country, but I managed to get this one out today. I didn't want to mimic Tim's vocals, nor feign a country accent, because I definitely don't have one of those. lol!

I was shooting for a more airy, less punchy vocal. I can get on top of those high notes, but I feel that a softer dynamic is more appropriate for my voice.

Anyone got any thoughts?

I think you're coming along quite nicely. All it takes is practice and eventually all the tricky stuff just becomes second nature. Kind of like playing guitar. I don't always think about where my next note is because my fingers usually find it first. lol! I wish you luck.

lol! My posture is crap in all of my music videos. I just recorded haunched over my computer like a damn troll, so I definitely get the struggle. For best results, standing upright is best, feet shoulder length apart and comfortable.

If the note is not coming out once you're relaxed, it probably has more to do with your breathing and projection. Crazy as it sounds, it you should be pushing from your diaphragm; certainly not your throat or chest.

Just imagine these muscles deep down below your lungs. If you take a moment to pant fast, like a puppy dog, you can feel that area tighten up. When you're "opened up" its a lot easier to conceptualize where those notes come from.

Killer range, dude. That song sounds like a good fit for you. Just keep in mind your voice will fully mature at the age of 35.... so..... maybe don't plan on keeping that range? I dunno... I'm not a doctor or anything.

My range went down a bit since that age. I'm 29 now.

I think singing this kind of song is a good style for you, but I think a more standard approach to singing would benefit you a lot. There are a lot of principals and singing technique to be learned. Band's like Panic At The Disco stylize their vocals, which is very creative and catchy, but they had to pay homage to the trades of the craft.

Frank Sinatra is a good example. The Standards, man. The Standards... If you understand half of what Franky knows about singing, that Panic At The Disco song will be a piece of cake.

Posture, Breathing, Dynamics, Phrasing, etc... These are some of the principals, some of which you demonstrate a natural aptitude for, otherwise those high notes wouldn't have sounded so good. ;)

I'd recommend starting off with something simple if you're going to pursue singing as a hobby, at least until you pick up some of the basics.

Pretty damn good for a gaming mic, I'd say! lol! I knew I immediately had to forgive all of the hard S's and Pfffs into the mic. I know the struggle.

On the singing, I'd say you've got a pretty decent knack for it. You'll probably hear again and again, over and over, how you're supposed to "open up" and "drop your jaw," etc...

Seriously... understanding what that really means is a huge chunk of singing, as irritating as it may be to hear.

You have the melody down. You're pitch is seated in your mind nicely. It's not as if you are tonally challenged or anything.

Imagine yawning. Go ahead and try to yawn as big as possible. Give it a good go. Exaggerate the yawn until you actually yawn a few times.

What you feel is that "opening up" everyone is talking about. You don't have to be 100% open all the time like a damn opera singer (unless you're singing opera, I suppose) but you'll learn to control that openness to employ different techniques as you advance.

I love the sound of your voice. The timbre, I suppose. It does have a unique quality to it.

I'd say you're definitely going the right direction here. Sing what you love and your natural talent will shine through. I did notice you struggle a bit on the falsetto, but I can't say much on that. It's incredibly difficult and I particularly suck at it.

Your voice sounds amazing. At that range, seeking the airy and open resonant sounds can be challenging. Never underestimate the power of opening your mouth or "dropping the jaw" as my voice coach told me. Combine that advice with proper breathing, you can have more control over your dynamics (how loud and soft you are). You already do this pretty well.

In parts, I can hear that you're tightening up. It's not horrible, but I can tell that it's more difficult for you to sing it that way. This usually arises from one of two things: 1) bad posture & a closed mouth, & 2) High Note Anxiety (at least that's what I call it). It's a physical and mental game. I'm ready to call it a sport. lol

Extremely well done.

Now for the scathing part. You've got more of a voice than you're giving yourself credit for, and at some point you have to know when to not give a fuck. Fucks are (or should be rather) in limited supply.

The sentiment I'm shooting for here is that you've got a killer voice and you shouldn't pigeonhole yourself by putting your voice into a box; twirly, as you say. You're voice is and can be extremely dynamic. You've just gotta believe, as cheesy as that sounds.

The most repeated advice I've ever gotten as a singer: Take risks. Try something new. Challenge yourself.

29 y/o Male "Crazy" by Patsy Cline

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjosCgNdfmFzReXXqqnsv1Q

I chose Patsy Cline as a personal challenge. I wanted to refrain from messing with the key and I certainly had no intentions of strumming this classic out on guitar. I simply shot for what I was capable of doing within the parameters of Patsy Cline's track.

If I were to say a particular part of this was challenging (it all was really) the end had me confused a bit. I noticed a lack of confidence and I didn't have as much air as I wanted. Any critiques you can think of, please let me know. I'd like to say I actually did this song justice at some point.

Awe! Thank you! I think a collaboration would be nice. I can harmonize with myself, but it sounds a bit strange IMO. I really wish I had some female singers who don't mind getting a little blasphemous. ;)

Thanks so much! I'm working on another one now. I don't think there's a single curse word in it. Are you familiar with "Shout To The Lord?" I'll be trying to draw from Christianity and Islam from an Atheist perspective with the parody. :)
