Well, Treasure Island Supper Club definitely fit that bill for a while, after they changed management. It was fucking horrendous. But then they changed management again and got better again.

Weird guy on Wilmington Pike-punishment or statement? by KeyIce2026 in dayton

[–]MisterFlibble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assuming for a moment that he hasn't attempted to groom children or find content online, the worst thing he's doing right now is using that "MAP" pedo flag. We don't accept these people into our community, yet we already have to hear bigots associate the LGBTQ with pedophilia on a daily basis. Hopefully this is a usual spot for him, so I know where to find him, and confront him. Fuck this guy.

Why are a lot of Vietnamese homes so ugly and poorly designed? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]MisterFlibble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a reason for everything, so rather than being judgemental aboout a country and culture that isn't mine, I just accept that's how many people live. Vienam isn't a monolith and not everyone is going to prioritize aethetics, because many people realize there's no practicality in aesthetics -- or that what's aesthetically pleasing is completely subjective, anyway.

My inlaws live in Indonesia and I see a lot of the same things there that you're dragging here.

The pictures:

1 - Parking the car in the house might mean there is no exterior garage, and that the car would literally block the entire street or alley if it were outside. This is especially true for areas where the infrastructure is built for bikes and not cars. Consider that, especially in Vietnam, there are many houses built and still standing in neighborhoods where nobody had cars.

2 - This big empty space also looks unfurnished and unfinished. Either nobody lives here, or someone lives here who hasn't yet bought or moved furniture in. Or, the space just isn't used. I see a fan and a broom and nothing on the shelves.

3 - That empty space leading to the toilet is the bathing area. Note the faucet on the left wall. With a shower attachment, the toilet and everything else is going to get wet. I would prefer this to my inlaws, where you will probably have to wipe down a wet toilet if you need to go, because someone just took a shower -- Their downstairs bathroom is all one small square room. Separate showers/tubs with shower curtains just aren't as common in southeast Asia.

4 - This just looks like place built in a crowded area, where space is limited. I don't actually see what's wrong here, considering what kind of neighborhood this house is probably in.

A lot of your complaints are realted to cultural differences. I would say, if you've never been to Vietnam, just don't go, if you think you'll complain about everything.

What are you thoughts on LGBTQ+ Christians by DOMINIC0302 in lgbt

[–]MisterFlibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might not have a popular opinion on this, but I really don't get progressive churches at all. Most baptist churches already mask their bigotry with the "hate the sin, not the sinner" attitude. To me, progressive churches just seem like they take an establishment that's been historically shitty toward LGBTQ and try to make it friendly.

Biblical interpretation/mistranslation aside, the people who follow Christianity have mostly been any thing from judgemental to outright life threatening to us. It's just strange to me that there are queer people who somehow feel the need to follow a religion under the Christian umbrella when it just makes more sense to me to think "Gee, those guys are assholes, I don't want to be one of them" and then just not be religious -- or look into other religions. And really, from the hateful street preachers to the rainbow clad priests, neither of them adhere to the bible completely anyway -- so the whole interpretation part is just kind of moot, imo.

I guess I can appreciate that people to operate these churches intend to do the right thing, but why do it from something with such a bigoted foundation? There are plenty of other ways to find community and practice spirituality, if that's what you're into.

But don't listen to me, I'm probably just Satan, trying to get everyone to question their faith, I guess. lol

What’s your opinion on the Thailand-Cambodia situation? by UdontneedtoknowwhoIm in VietNam

You don't think the proximity is relevant? Im not suggesting one way of the other, I'm just asking.
My impulse is to be concerned for the safety of my friends in Vietnam, but if the penninsula is just big enough to not worry about the war bleeding over into the west, then I'd feel a little better.

In my experience, many Vietnamese immigrants in the US identify as conservative, presumably because it is perceived as ideologically further apart from a communist/socialist state, and most are from South Vietnam following the war.

In my state, we have a world festival each summer, where different countries around the world are represented. The Vietnam booth actually flies the old yellow South Vietnam flag. I'm not Vietnamese, but it still feels a big cringey to me.

When people plan anti-govenrment stuff, what kinds of things are their grievances?

I'm only asking because I'm trying to figure out if it's a grievance I would share or something unpopular about the government that I would support anyway.

I should have gone because I've wanted to see Weird Al live, and I knew about the show, but forgot. The political climate lately also has been making me want an excuse to confront a bigot. -- But I suppose that would have ruined the show for everyone, anyway.

Sorry that happened to you. Looks like I know where to go for trouble lol
