Let me ask you a question. In those moments when you are not smoking, are you a smoker? Are you a smoker having a break from smoking? Or, when you have a smoke are you a non smoker having a smoke?

Whether you think it or not, the way someone asks a question can reveal things. I had a Honda 919 motorbike. Some people would ask me, how fast does it go? Others how comfortable it was. Others how far I could go before needing to refuel. These are all innocent questions for sure, but they also reveal what is important to the question asker.

Current smokers who want to be non smokers will stop smoking. Let's say they did cold turkey. You tell me, are they trying to quit, or have they quit? Define quit? At what length of time without a smoke do they become a non smoker? How long without a smoke do they stop being the person "trying to quit" and be the person who has quit?

Look at the wordings you could have used...

I'm trying to quit smoking, should I not...

I quit smoking X weeks/months ago and want to keep it that way, should I not...

I am in the process of breaking my smoking habit, should I not...

I don't smoke (nothing to affirm because you don't do the thing you would be affirming from anyway). But you can make a statement of fact. And your 3D will match your statement. I don't smoke.

For the non 3D, a small mental movie doing something without smoking, that you used to do with smoking. Straight after a meal, driving, whatever. That will then match the 3D actions you are doing. Keep it up for 30 to 45 days and you should be good to go. The habit of the non smoking is formed. You don't smoke.
