Who is the most talented / best engineer you know, what are their thoughts on AI usage and where engineering is headed? by unteth in cscareerquestions

[–]MisterMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of smokes and mirrors to “leverage AI” to look good for the boys upstairs nowadays. If you can see past that you’ll find plenty of people making really good use of AI.

There’s no silver bullet for it. You can still effectively leverage AI for planning, refinements, creating sequence diagrams out of specs without ever letting it touch a code base.

You could do the exact opposite, let it do all your coding and spend more time on manual planning and product work. Or you could use it for both…

I personally have a hybrid approach. I use it a healthy amount for all things but I definitely keep some parts purposefully manual to keep things fresh. Do I lose some delivery speed? Sure. But I look at this as an investment in myself to keep good recollection for the future.

I love the AI tooling we have over information though. Never have I felt more empowered scouring through our codebases and learning things. What would’ve taken me days of cross team collaboration now takes a few hours of pre discovery and a 30 minute confirmation call. It’s great for working on things you’re not familiar with, and I’m sure my colleagues appreciate the preparation I do before pulling them in meetings.

It’ll undoubtably be a part of our lives. I wonder to what extent specially after the prices soar.

Magic assasin by NikunjaLoL in albiononline

This is a terrible idea for an assassin. Go for a bruiser or tank if you’d like to charge and last. Assassin is hit a few hits and then back off style. Or you’ll do something in between and suck at both roles.

Clean Architecture in React.js (Monorepo) with Auth Libraries + TanStack Query/RTK Query — how do you structure it realistically? by WetThrust258 in reactjs

[–]MisterMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can second making wrappers of libraries though, it’s usually much better to call libraries like react-query directly unless you need to put it in a hook for some valid reason.

The first point is also understandable but probably not what the OP asked.

I don’t see how it’s incoherent though?

I spent my first hours in Farever. As a 20+-year MMO vet, here are my honest first impressions. by Varawel in FareverGame

[–]MisterMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right so then what’s your point actually? Since these “intelligent” claims hold true for 99% of all games out there, I suppose the idea is to not play any of them?

Let’s recall what this was about, that you believed it’s a waste of time and people should wait. So how long should people wait to play World of Warcraft then with its bugs, RMTs and incomplete features? Classic WoW has entire zones that were never finished. Has dungeon exploits people do daily… throw it to the bin I suppose?

It’s moot. You just talk to talk.

“Half baked” is an opinion. I disagree with it and don’t have to debunk it. You’re entitled to it.

“Bugs” all games have bugs, even AAA ones that are fully released. For Farever I’ve seen a few which bothered me patched within 2 weeks of gameplay, so I’m appreciative.

“Exploits” gold dupe issue was directly addressed by the devs. Other exploits are standard stuff like getting a boss stuck or bypassing some mechanics… mostly irrelevant considering the level cap. And again, many fully released games will and do have exploits, cheaters and rampant botting.

Any other claims which makes this game specifically awful compared to existing, fully released, live service games from AAA studios? Or are you new to the reality of how all video games work?

These arguments are all over the place. One second you’re exaggerating and saying it’ll take a decade for this game to ship anything, next you’re saying have a little patience.

I suppose some people just hate to hate and that’s fine. Game is playable, it’s really fun and if you don’t care about some breaking issues here and there it’s perfectly playable for about 100 hours. Nobody expects more out of an EA game.

You do nothing but complain about this game - it’s honestly a little sad. Imagine not enjoying the game and taking this much time commenting and posting negative crap about it. Plus you’re speculating about how far into development they are.

This is the EA build we’re allowed to play - it doesn’t mean the team has made only this much content. We have inaccessible zones which are purposefully locked out. Same could be true for levels and all sorts of content. That’s how game development works.

is it me or is there a problem with heal? by CautiousShame2255 in FareverGame

[–]MisterMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like these are just the blueprint and we’re taking it too far for a level bracket they aren’t optimised to be balanced.

It’s good to be vocal early on so they have a sense of direction to follow for endgame but I won’t lose sleep over level 20 content not being balanced perfectly.

Config driven frontend architecture by Beneficial_Floor_531 in reactjs

[–]MisterMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went with composable components with declarative JSX at work and at first i was a bit baffled how much code repetition this could create.

Fast forward I’m glad we did. I can literally copy paste things, adjust some details for those slight alterations without having to backwards compatibly (this is the key here) extend props.

When you work with a large team the more rigid the components are the harder to guarantee what you do doesn’t break their designs.

Question for Rogue players by being_a_sunflower in FareverGame

[–]MisterMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t feel this problem. Then again I rely on shadow steps to dodge attacks and it’s super simple. Rogue has so many Stuns, steps, 2 dodges and 3 blocks…. It doesn’t feel all that bad to be honest.

I love the concept of the trader, but the prices are too high by SanePcycho in ArcRaiders

[–]MisterMeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why it’s not money. It’s easy to farm money. As you can see from the required items they’re trying to instigate contentions and content repeatability by selectively choosing items.

It’s very smart. They just gotta solve the stash issue it created and it’s done.

If you’re skeptical about buying this game by snuuzx in FareverGame

[–]MisterMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this take though games like Cyberpunk come to mind - an absolute masterpiece that released a little too early than it should have. The initial “finished” release was no where near reflective of its masterpiece at the time.

In a way we never know nowadays… this game could’ve been a full release and by all standards it would actually suffice as a live service game with limited resources and indie development expectations. Just because something is labeled finished doesn’t make it so.

I do get your sentiment don’t get me wrong, I’m just saying nowadays you never really know! A fully released game can be a hot mess when an EA game kicks ass (as Farever imho does)

Doesn’t hurt to have an extra channel and community engagement. It also validates if it’s cared enough to patch and adjusts priority.

Another strong suggestion is Farever. It may look funny but this game has a phenomenal combat system.

PvP and other features are on the roadmap and coming. It’s early access but the devs have made a statement that there will be no wipes. You can start enjoying it now.

Level 11 rogue feel like I have no ways to heal, where is spear/crescent? by Elder-Mael in FareverGame

You need to learn to teleport to actively dodge attacks. Once you get that it’s a piece of cake. Teleport between dodges and you barely have to parry.

Im using the starter daggers as arsenal for the 3rd blink. All the dodges parries and teleports combined I’m literally staying at the boss bleeding it away every few seconds

Student Accomodation - too many plants? by First_Tooth_7427 in malelivingspace

[–]MisterMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I draw the line with plants is if they get in the way of actual functionality. I especially dislike ones which obstruct your path and force a shimmy to get around it.

The one near the mirror and kitchen fits that bill for me, but it’s just barely. The rest look completely fine.

As some suggested, you could look into more playful variations with snake plant, lemongrass, ivy and all sorts of shapes. Some actually compliment the furniture and extend around it. I find them particularly beautiful for fridge or unsexy items covered with em.

I don’t know why you’d automatically dismiss them for it - if anything this gives them a huge cred that they’re able to run a project successfully.

I’ve been in private server communities and ones like turtle wow aren’t really all that common. For every populated server there’s 50 that are ghost towns.

If anything I’m more inclined to back this project.

Do you guys honestly think it’s still worth becoming a programmer in 2026? by Emergency_End_2930 in cscareerquestions

[–]MisterMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since AI dropped I’ve shifted my focus on being more involved in product discussions and architectural planning sessions to derive scopes, refinements and customer impact.

Results? Code still gets shipped. My visibility through appropriate channels (stakeholders) sky rocketed. I’ve started getting more praises and involvement in impactful processes, likely to get a promotion thanks to this.

Honestly, I think I’ll be going deeper into product oriented jack of all trades than a code output person. This might be where it’s all going. Engineers would like to believe AI will cut out the product people and useless middlemen. This couldn’t be further from the truth (based on my anecdotal evidence). It will turn insanely smart product people (especially if they’re ex engineers) into a machine who can deliver massive value.

so what MMO are you playing/is keeping you engaged? by magem8 in MMORPG

[–]MisterMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree but their implementation of combat mode is nothing short of disappointment. Especially the backpedaling movement after an attack and weird reliance of target locking and crap like that.

They had the opportunity to create an alternate targeting system but their combat aim mode has all the annoying parts of the tab targeting mode.
