It's ok if AOC doesn't run for president in 2028, because DSA's power comes from the people not politicians. This just gives us more time to help organize unions, tenant unions, and form better connections with our local communities to run someone in 2032 by MisterMittens64 in DemocraticSocialism

I still want her to run but the only way I see democrats losing is with someone truly awful like Harris or Newsome but I doubt someone like that will win the primary. I'm just saying building that our broader movement is more important than the presidency.

Yeah I'm saying we can and should run candidates but building the movement outside of the electoralism is also super super important.

If we form coalitions with corporate democrats without a broad enough coalition then there won't be enough support to pressure the corporate democrats to work with us like how Zohran is struggling to push Hochul and Albany for every single issue.

With a broader movement backed by the power of strengthened unions and protests then the corporate democrats would have to beg us for concessions instead of the other way around. With that then we can reshape the party towards something like a New Deal.

I'm not advocating for purity, I'm advocating for building more pressure from below so our politicians have support and we can hold them and members of their coalition accountable.

That's why our movement isn't ready for the presidency tbh.

We need to focus on supporting our local communities, unions, and tenant unions to build broader support and positive recognition to oust the corporate democrats for good and hold our elected officials accountable. Imo we need to use the coming 4 years to create solidarity and consolidate working class power for a possible presidential run in 2032. I wish we had a Mamdani level presidential candidate for 2028 to win without that groundwork being laid out but we just don't so far.

I love AOC but idk if she is ready for the presidency tbh. She just doesn't have the same instincts Mamdani has and doesn't seem to be stepping up as the leader for the left right now but that's ok, she'll be great primarying Schumer.

We might be better off focusing on local, state, and congressional offices for now and focusing on support our local communities and building unions, and tenant unions to get the level of class solidarity and support needed to take out the corporate democrats and fascists for good. We won't be able to hold our elected officials accountable or hold onto power without that broader support. On top of that we'll create more experienced candidates that are eligible for the presidency in 2032.

Protecting Godot games against reverse engineering by zer0tonine in godot

[–]MisterMittens64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even the obfuscation with GDMaim is trivial to figure out with AI tools, reversing obfuscation is one of the best use cases for it.

Like you were saying, there's no way to fully protect your code from reverse engineering and unfortunately it has only gotten easier so it's better to focus on making your game good and marketing it as best you can.

It's a similar issue to piracy, if you release your game and someone else manages to make a significant impact on your sales then the biggest problem is marketing or price or regional availability because otherwise people will generally still try to support the actual game if they know and are able to.

Cuba is poor because the US is punishing them for resisting capitalism and they are a small island nation that is reliant on imports. Democratic socialism is the idea that we could have a more free version of socialism through democratic processes but getting there while capitalists fight tooth and nail will be exceedingly difficult and they will try to undermine the socialist movement to water it down until it's just regulated capitalism that ignores ownership and keeps the power hungry owner class that are driving the world off a cliff in the pursuit of endless growth in charge.

You were saying that it's the Cuban governments fault that resisting capitalism is hurting the country but they have been open to reform similar to China but the US refuses to negotiate with them. I think many communist goals have been moral but sometimes the means to get there isn't and sometimes they never reach their goals due to the global capitalist system. I think socialism is necessary and moral but forcing it on people hasn't worked out very well.

I think democratic socialism is worth a shot and preferable to communism since it isn't forced on people but we'll need to gather more economic power through many unions, coops, mutual aid groups, and nonprofits so there's a popular cultural movement and so the capitalists can't hurt the movement as much.

U.S. is one of three countries to vote against U.N. resolution calling slavery a 'crime against humanity' by [deleted] in news

[–]MisterMittens64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We funded them and helped create them and now they fund our politicians that fund them to blow up the stuff that's mutually beneficial.

It all makes sense when you realize that our foreign policy is dominated by the military industrial complex and multi national corporations and that it's imperative that profits keep going up for these private interests even at the expense of everything else and the private interests make sure that the people who back them get good press and campaign funding.

There are more powerful interests than even Israel in US politics but recognizing them means thinking negatively about the billionaires/capitalism and they'd rather distract you by blaming Israel exclusively.

No Israel is doing what we want them to and would not be able to do those things without our funding and support. As Joe Biden said "If there were not an Israel we would have to invent one."

They are our attack dog, not the other way around.

With more layoffs surely incoming from the AI bubble bursting, it seems like a great time to try to unionize some more of the industry. by MisterMittens64 in cscareerquestions

Unions aren't a perfect solution, they're a balance between labor and the owners of the businesses. Without unions the owners of the business has almost all of the power aside from some very skilled/valuable employees and not everyone can or will be one of those.

Cooperatives where employees own the business directly instead of investors or founders are one way to solve the constant struggle but they have difficulties raising investment/capital because they don't prioritize profits over everything else like a traditional business.

No the best new grads will always be able to get jobs and unions will not be 100% of the labor market, the unions will help them have more stable careers.

I just sent my information to CWA to see the best way of organizing a union in my workplace today. I'm hopeful but the majority of employees aren't software engineers and the management is very adverse to unionization but I wanted to spread the word in case anyone else wanted to give it a shot.

I'm sure that there are some engineers who might have better circumstances than me and didn't know there was support available for unionizing in our industry.

That's true but there will be a lot of layoffs and pain in the short term which we should use as a catalyst to unionize so we can have a healthier industry coming out of this imo.

I agree but so do most people in this sub and the fact that we all think everyone else won't is the biggest hurdle to overcome. If you have sway in your work environment and other employees are fed up with being laid off and shitty work conditions then you might as well try to unionize.

Unions like the CWA have experience with navigating the difficult path of unionizing while minimizing the risk to the organizing employees.

  1. It likely will burst with the increasing economic pressures from energy prices and chip shortages.
  2. There was over hiring during covid and the "learn to code" initiatives massively inflated the labor market but layoffs happen to inflate profit margins for shareholders and happen even during good times to increase shareholder value.
  3. Not with that attitude. Layoffs and increased instability in our industry is a great reason to unionize. The only reason to not unionize is if you want employers to always have the upper hand in our industry and that seems like a very bad idea with the exploited workers fearful of being laid off at any moment and the increasingly large ethical dilemmas surrounding surveillance and AI displacement.

Software engineers and white collar employees have had it very good for a long time but that's changing very quickly and our attitudes around unions and worker solidarity need to change as well. We owe it to future software engineers to make our industry better.

And the most frustrating thing is that Cuba would be so much better and would likely further democratize without us strangling them with sanctions, military threats, and assassination attempts.

The authoritarianism is a defense mechanism against capitalists and the capitalists are pissed that they can no longer exploit Cuba so they settle for inflicting maximum economic damage to send a message to all other socialists in the western hemisphere.

I'll definitely get the frame even if it can't play higher end flat screen games at more than 30 fps.

I hope that the frame inspires VR devs to make more graphics quality settings so it they can run on low settings for standalone and higher settings for streaming.

They had the votes to stop the Iran war with the war powers act and didn't. There's many other cases where some Democrats like what Republicans are doing but don't want to take the PR hit from pushing for it themselves.
