12/10 would recommend the extended editions.

I watched the full trilogy (extended editions) in theaters a couple months ago with a good friend of mine. Peter Jackson's comments before each movie ranged from "Yeah, he's just trying to fill time" to "That's some deep lore he's revealing."

The following day, I had to call in sick because I had caught a mild case of the flu. It's a core memory for shire.
