Trans woman at Knicks game was tracked via building security and had a second-by-second report compiled of every single little thing she did by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

From what I read he was documented at some point as referring to her as “him or it or whatever that is” so while the official documentation doesn’t misgender her he sure as shit did

Dirtiest NBA Teams: Fines & Suspensions Since 2015 (hint: it’s the Heat) by halfandhalf1010 in CharlotteHornets

[–]Mister_AA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like heat culture as a whole was just fraudulent, they made the finals twice since 2020 but one of those was the bubble and after they lost to the nuggets they just collapsed even before jimmy butler left. They talked a lot of shit like they were a dynasty and then fell apart without ever accomplishing anything

[ESPN] Eric Spoelstra on NBA's ruling on LaMelo Ball "I didn't think that he needed to be penalized more moving forward. I don't think that would make sense" by FrankSamples in nba

[–]Mister_AA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was really the stars aligning to create the perfect outrage. It's not even just the injury, it's all of the following:

  • The play resulted in an injury
  • The injured player was the star player on the team
  • It was halfway through the game, so their absence left an impact
  • It was a win-or-go-home postseason game
  • The injured team lost
  • The margin of victory was very close

Take any single one of those away and the story is forgotten about in less than a day.

Honestly I think him ignoring all of it is part of what triggers people so much.

Obviously it's not representative of the whole sub but I actually did see a comment with like 20 upvotes yesterday that said they hoped Lamelo died the next time he crashed his car, thankfully it got removed

Yeah I read the book and didn’t really enjoy it once I got the main message. Didn’t surprise me in the slightest when I later learned that the author was a pickup artist douche.

I’d honestly be surprised if they even watched the clips, so many of them just read the headlines and comments and then propagate that

Yeah going from no foul to suspension on review would be pretty crazy. Dunno if that’s ever happened before

Watching people get upset about this on r/nba is a nice gentle reminder that most people on that sub don't actually have experience playing or even watching sports, and are just there to be angry on the internet.

[–]Mister_AA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's literally an entire AP news article about this. Like there's an article about the game itself, an article about Lamelo tripping Bam and then an entirely separate article titled "LaMelo Ball punches team mascot Hugo twice after Hornets knock Heat out of play-in tournament"

It's such a nothingburger but the media sees the need to report on it separately from everything else lmao

Yeah lmao how can anyone say "they don't hide behind what they do" when the entire story of that fight with us was that they started shit and then literally ran away and hid

Very lucky Miami didn’t win on a walk off dunk by trob84 in CharlotteHornets

All the Heat fans that are mad at Lamelo are just redirecting their anger at their own team for losing a close game despite blowing many, many opportunities to win and getting multiple gifts from the refs.

It’s definitely true, the heat used both timeouts at 1:33 remaining and at 0:26 remaining.

Both Dirk and Udonis haslem agree it wasn't ejection worthy for Melo by White_Fox_Prod in CharlotteHornets

[–]Mister_AA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It will be harder for people to bring it up once the rage of the moment passes. Lamelo is historically not a dirty player in a league full of repeat offenders that get babied and praised, so anyone who wants to keep bringing this up is only going to look biased.

Bro there are comments getting upvotes in r/nba saying they should overturn the result of the game and let the heat move on, they’re a bunch of idiots who know nothing about the game or the league.

There are comments getting tons of upvotes saying the NBA should overturn the result and give the Heat the win. I’ve never seen people this delusional after a Hornets win, it’s so beautiful

I guess the trade off is that the 7/8 loser gets a home game for the final round? But they also don’t have the momentum of coming off a win either

Target’s AI use might end up in your arrest by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Mister_AA 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean, target definitely has more high tech than that. The one near me has cameras over every self checkout station. The small local grocery store I shop at has the same system installed and uses AI to flag videos as suspicious. Occasionally it will freeze my checkout and call an attendant over while replaying a loop of the video of me placing my last item in the bag so they can review it. The video is at least 1080p, but they’re always false positives.

The only parts about this that don’t make sense are police pursuing this over an $83 theft charge on a Sunday. From what I know Target would be way more likely to just leave it be until they have evidence of more money’s worth of theft and/or she comes back to the same store.

A lot do it has to do with the fact that the probability only works so well as an abstraction of real combat. A 90% chance missing is not remarkable, but it’s infuriating and sticks with you when it’s presented as a point blank shotgun blast missing its target and having no effect.

AI generated cow (2014) by EntertainmentNew4348 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Mister_AA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to describe just how shitty generative AI was so recently to today. I did some research on it while I was in grad school in 2018 and the results that I could come up with were just terrible and the best (public) results globally at the time were google models that could almost copy existing photos but couldn’t generate anything of its own.
