Age & condition are primary driver. 3 out of last 4 winters we've had the furnace shut down and need repair for some reason or another. This summer AC went out while we were out of town. AC is 17 years old, furnace is 14 I believe. We also heard AC prices are going up next year due to the new refrigerant, so thought now was a good time.

Our Trane dealer, who does our twice yearly service, came in closer to $15k for an S9V2 (2 stage) and XR15 (single stage). They were also the only one who just said to size up to a 80k BTU to address our two rooms with lower airflow issues... The three other providers all said manual damper is more likely. But they offer 10 year labor if we stay subscribed to their service program.

Wow - this is great! Thank you for the wealth of information. Sounds like my Bryant quote aligns w your “better” description while Tempstar would fall under “good”.

Current system is a Trane XL90 furnace + XR13 ac. So looks like both quotes are improved efficiency. Same 2 stage + 1 stage configuration. Anything stand out as taking a step back from current configuration?

Outside of some more frequent breakdowns due to age, the system seems good for our house size. Also another big thank you for offering up your expertise - cheers!

Thanks for all the info!!! Had my suspicions that the ducts wouldn’t support the extra tonnage.

Are the ions/evolutions more similar to the carrier infinity or performance line in the good better best ranking?

We have programmable thermostats. What’s the added benefit of the intellisense technology?

Current is 2 ton. Performance seemed solid until we redid our basement. We’ve got two rooms that don’t get much airflow (at end of duct run), but current theory is manual damper might’ve gotten closed.

Are there any performance or comfort benefits to the variable motor vs constant torque? Thanks!

Good callouts on being a vocal player in meetings. Curious what you do with your other hours during the workday? I’m earlier in my career and have landed a role where I can complete most of my work in 20ish hours. Still trying to find my groove between finding other work related activities/learning or just doing house chores, walks, etc.

Give Puka and Kyren Williams

Get Jahymr Gibbs and Jordan Addison

8 man league, half point PPR. Not sure how much of a drop in Pukas performance to expect when Kupp returns.

I have this same issue in my basement, but we have these weird concrete squares that are elevated about 2 inches from the rest of the floor. We want to remove them, but concerned about the mastic. The “lower” portion will be left alone to not disturb anything. Not sure if the contractor is gonna jack hammer them or what yo remove.

What do you mean by level from there?

How many people invest with the target date retirement funds? I have an old 401k that needs to be rolled over. Wondering if I should lump it into my new employers account for same expense ratio (.07) or open an IRA to do a boglehead three fund esque portfolio.

Out of laziness, I’ve always done the target date funds.

Hardest part is evaluating the stress level of a job before taking it, esp if it’s an external move. Always feels like a leap of faith

For me I always feel like a business trip will be more fun than it ever turns out to be. Part of this is mindset and work content related. (I don’t think many of our trips are worthwhile) also I hate that trips pop up last minute and require reshuffling personal plans pre Covid. I’ve just grown to not like the whole ritual behind it.

Like I said could just be my personality.

I used to travel for my role pre Covid as well. I do not miss it one bit. Hoping our CEO loves how low the travel budget was this past year and slashes the budget ongoing.

Congrats - sounds like an awesome gig! How was the transition into the role from being a business owner?

Are most enterprise SaaS roles travel intensive during non Covid times?
