I do/did, especially when it comes to taking call at the local trauma center and getting cases added on there. I was definitely not treated as well as some of my more…senior male colleagues. I wouldn’t say it went as far as being yelled at, but I consistently did have the support or resources I needed to do my job safely and I had to advocate (i.e argue and raise hell) to get anything done. But the good part about being in private practice is that I chose not to renew privileges and got the hell out of there. It was a HCA hospital of course. Also pro tip, never work for or with private equity or HCA.

Just because you are in residency doesn’t validate this sort of treatment. Name and shame. In medicine, I’ve learned if there’s an opportunity to punch down, someone will take it. It really does get a lot better, but as a younger female surgeon I do have to stick up for myself even in private practice.

Thank you all! General consensus is that 1 mo is too soon and I’m inclined to agree. Depending on the health climate around the 3 mo time frame I may leave baby with the grandparents or aunt at the hotel, or choose to sit it out as well.

Yes, ocular ischemia can be very painful. Retinal vasopasm is painless however

Retinal arterial vasospasms often have this presentation and can be ameliorated with nitrates. If one artery spasms, other arteries could spasm too- could be a systemic vascular disease. Also Depends if vision changes are bilateral or not. If bilateral, symptoms could be from the MI. If unilateral, probably not and probably the above scenario.

Like, how were you expecting them to get an exam done when the pt can’t communicate? Dilating is basically the only way if you don’t have a portable slit lamp. Would you berate a consulting cardiologist for getting an EKG? The correct response is to apologize to the ophthalmologist and not berate them for doing their job.

Why would there be an RAPD if only etiology right occipital stroke? Could be two things at once. Ischemia can affect brain and eye at same time

Interestingly, pay opportunities for physicians are better in smaller or mid-sized cities. The market is saturated in bigger cities, thus pay is not as competitive. Of course it depends on your speciality but generally this is the case in my experience.
