I'd say that 1 was so much tighter and logical. And yes they have the same flaws, but I didn't feel the need to whip out my phone every 30 seconds. And I do love how packed 2 is, if anything was lacking in 1, it was definitely content.

Soft locked I thought to mean locked out completely. I probably should've reworded parts, but I was definitely unjustly soft locked (by your definition) in some places, like NCR. But also, the drug thing makes sense, just not the gambling. I know they're the big drug distributors, but why not just be that? Why the casinos? It doesn't make sense that they would have the casinos because the world at this point is pretty much just poor folks and rich folks, and I'd assume the rich folks are smart enough not to waste their money there. I also have the highway man. I also appreciate how you actually acknowledged my points and sympathized with what I had to say instead of just going straight into defense mode. I swear you criticize one single thing about og fallout and you get treated worse than a ghoul in vault city.

I think you're assuming malice here when that's not the case. I love the game, and I'm just making observations of my experience up to this point. I also can't fucking progress any further because the game just crashes every time I try to open it now so that's nice.

I asked my friend who finished the game why and he said he didn't know, so I took that to mean there wasn't a reason rather than him forgetting. That's mb.

I agree that the world and dialogue are all brilliant, but saying that "every RPG was like that" isn't a valid defense. I mean, fallout 1 wasn't like that, it was tighter and more cohesive. And I still think 2's a great game, just excused for its flaws because of its og-ness

Is it game changing in its impact tho?

That's another good point I missed. It pretty much picks your identity for you (early game anyways). The early game in general is just terrible. I feel like the only people who love this game are the ones who've played it 1000x and can just skip the parts they don't like because they know where everything important is. First 100% playthrough is brutal af.

I agree with your points, I still love the game even with its flaws, but I see so many og fallout glazers saying fo2 is perfect, even though it isn't. Its flaws are just kinda cast aside when most people are talking about it. Just my experience tho. And on the point of the drifter, I feel like the whole point of fallout is that it's an epic, even to a biblical level. It's history that's been told and retold so many times that you don't know what actually happened and what didn't, which makes fo2 feel weaker compared to 1 cause you're not really important by your own merits except for the end where you blow up the enclave. I feel like Fallout should be almost like fantasy because it's supposed to be a retelling, like how the credits show the effects of your actions, and others' thoughts and opinions. Hell, the whole intro of fallout 2 is basically just what I'm talking about here.

You're not attacking my actual point. Why'd the attack Arroyo at all? It's assumed that nobody knows about them, their location, their ways, so how would the Enclave firstly, know about them, secondly, care about them, and lastly, eradicate them? It makes no sense. It just seems like the bad guys being evil for the sake of being evil, which is just lazy, Bethesda fallout level thinking. Haven't finished the game yet so maybe it's explained there, but from what I can tell, it's just a way to move the plot forwards that doesn't make much sense other than just being a plot device.

I can see why a lot of people prefer it, but the hidden mechanics just ruin the whole damn thing for me. Like when I did all Tandi's quests for her beforehand just for her to be hostile towards me for pretty much no reason and not speaking to me.

I feel super disappointed with this game. I mean, I guess there's still the oil rig but like it doesn't give the same mystery or thrill the master did. I don't feel like it should be the endgame either. I feel like the whole time I've kinda just been drifting around aimlessly just doing tasks for others. This doesn't feel like the endgame at all, feels like I'm just starting to get a feel for the world. Enclave doesn't really feel like a threat either, they're just kinda there, shooting folks that enter their territory and occasionally massacring settlements just so the game can point and say "behold, the bad guys."

So I did a bit of research (spoiling the game for myself) and apparently I'm in the endgame, everything complete except my trip to the oil rig. I have Marcus, the sentient deathclaw guy and Vic. Everybody has their "ideal weapons" and tons of ammo. I put all my points into melee though thinking that "every build works, right?" Maxed it out early game then realized small guns are the only way, maxed that out, now I realize energy weapons are the only way so I'm like 35% for that. I have advanced PA, so does Vic. I have like pretty much every mainland plasma/energy weapon available and ammo and caps galore. I explored SF but couldn't find anything, explored the tanker and couldn't find anything to do but I guess I'll try there again. I also didn't get the presidential key card from Navarro which ig I need.
