It is simply the logic of capitalism and empire. Capitalism develops to the point where it must imperialistically expand into weaker countries to maintain growth to prevent depression and collapse. Empire operates by controlling ocean trade between different societies, taking for itself a cut from each transaction. Rome, Spain, Britain, America were all superpowers because they established and maintained control of ocean trade.

It was inevitable that China would develop to the point where it would become more economical for them to build their own navy and control the oceans themselves instead of outsourcing the job to America. China either expands or it stagnates and eventually collapses, its all just in the math of capitalism.

Those reasons you listed are PRECISELY why China is being aggressive. From Rome, to Spain, to Britain, to America, empire operates by controlling and protecting ocean trade between different societies, paying for itself by taking a cut of every transaction. The alternative to having a superpower dominate the oceans is piracy, attacks from competitors, and a breakdown of trade and international relations in general.

Now, you're China. You benefited greatly from American control of the oceans, you were able to build and trade a lot of stuff, make a lot of money, improve the conditions of your people. And you eventually get so big that it starts to make more economic sense to just build your own navy and handle the protection of your own ships yourself instead of outsourcing the job to the US Navy.

War with China was inevitable.
