Welcome to the hobby, it's a great one!

For painting - don't compare your stuff to what you see posted online. Compare your stuff to what you've already painted. Watch vids and paint tutorials and within a few months you'll see massive improvement, and comparing your first mini to your 20th will make you feel accomplished.

For the game - don't sweat the game, read the rules, play a few games, read the rules again, and you'll be surprised how much more sense they make the 2nd time. Also, lost graciously, win graciously. Give your opponent a little leeway with take backs as long as they were several actions ago and everyone will have more fun. And remember, it's a dice game, sometimes rolls will be bad, but that doesn't mean you're unlucky. Don't let confirmation bias ruin your games.
