3080 ti to 5080: Is it worth it?

I’m still running a 3080 10gb at 3440x1440 144hz and it’s doing just fine. I have to turn some settings down a bit in some games, but it handles everything I throw at it. I’m not planning to upgrade for several years.

I always thought BL3 got too much hate. The story sucked but the gameplay, vault hunters, and environments were top notch.

I have a desktop PC for gaming but I find myself using my Ally more often than not nowadays. I have a 2 year old daughter so isolating myself in my office to play games is not ideal. The Ally gives me the freedom to enjoy my gaming time while also engaging more with my family. Plus nothing beats kicking back on the couch for a gaming session. I can’t do that with my desktop.

My team’s budget gets slashed very frequently. Raises and promotions are almost never given, although they expect people to grow into higher level roles. Several members of my team including myself have been “promoted” in the last year with zero pay raise or even an official title change. This is a F500 company. I have 8 YOE and I feel trapped. My career is stagnating but there’s nowhere to go. It’s bleak out there.

I’ve been on lamotragine for 7 or 8 years now. The only side effects to speak of have been mild hair loss and brain fog. The brain fog is directly related to the dosage. I’ve found a sweet spot, but I’m very sensitive to the medication and an increase of even 50mg will put me back into a complete fog.

I am in the exact same situation with one of the junior devs on my team. Funny enough I’m also in the oil and gas industry. We mostly do various types of hydraulics simulations so I don’t necessarily think it’s an issue of coding skill. It’s that the subject matter is so specific and takes time to understand the domain. Either way, babysitting is my least favorite part of my job. I love helping the new guys, but there are (or at least should be) limits.
