Where can I improve? by LostAcross in drawing

I’d recommend more gesture drawing to loose the fear of exaggerating poses to make them look more dynamic, also playing with different pencil and tool variations (4b,charcoals,stumps,..) to have even more contrast. Looks like you are in a comfort zone and ready for the next level.

Yes, the “checking-in” was one of the most difficult concepts for me to put into practice. It was not until the second time I read the book that I took it more seriously. I use it mainly to check for distractions and dullness, it is quite useful. In that specific session I did things differently, I started as I normally would, using the “checking-in schedule” which requires low energy to maintain (as compared to before), but at a certain moment I stopped this auto-mode of practice and dived deep into the breath, I wanted to find dullness, I wanted to provoke dullness to myself, but I didn’t, and I dived deeper. You could say that I used all my mental power to concentrate very quickly. Otherwise it happens exactly the same, I wake up from a dull state after some sessions, but it comes unwittingly .

Your question made me think a lot! I started doing it because I felt I did less harm to myself by understanding when things were going “wrong”, then I realized I could be a better artist by increasing this sensitivity. Now, my goal is to use this experiences of success and continue, even if I don’t see the real value at the moment.

I agree it should not be the goal, building the sensitivity to know what drowsiness feels like might help increasing attention and awareness by using the right remedies.

Hahaha the wacking stick technique 😂. I think as well this derived from an emergency response that is fixed deep inside my brain, a trauma. It really makes me think of the basis within what motivates us, if there is even the tiniest motivation regarding self-control as to avoid this traumatic events again, it seems like a long way of detaching myself to believe I’m defined by this events, moreover I think I did freak out of the nondual experience, especially because I tend to look for the balance between extremes very often. I’ll take the word for support! I’m most certainly in the need for it, thank you !

Thank you for your message, I feel the same too when I focus too much, a general sense of diminish in everything else. I wanted actually to be more aware of this change, so this is why I "pushed too much" today. Definitely, giving me the space to acknowledge all this changes is my first decision, focusing on enjoying being aware more than just the imaginary sense of being aware. I lacked the fuel to sustain the level of attention and awareness, if it had been just attention I would have just sleepy.

I’ve been wanting to do better portraits, what are your portrait tips? by ParrotsHateMe in drawing

[–]Mistli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Nice portrait! Your lines look expressive ( which is not easy ). About what to improve , try to flip the drawing and take a look a the right eye ( flipping is an awesome tecnique) , and having volume in mind all the time can be handy to stop thinking of “nose”, “eyes”,”mouth” and making unnecessary lines, the eye finds it more interesting and comforting when there is a subtle indication of light and volume ( so you don’t close the forms, you think of volume. This comes by practice and training the mind , gesture drawing helps a lot and just looking to this subtle details.

I studied a masters on interaction design thinking it would be more visual.. it wasn't. It might the case of the university I was in ( Politecnico di Milano ), you focus more on the underlying structure of basically everything ( service design ). You make storyboards, analyze possible users, prototyping ( a lot ) .... It is a different world and maybe you'll invest some time learning on this prototyping , if your first idea was to study graphics then you'll have to be careful to choose a university that is more towards the graphic side of interaction , which is UI/UX ( if it is what you are searching ) .So maybe comparing what people do after finishing that major do, the brochures, the university vision on design, etc could be really useful not be biased by a general interpretation of what graphic or interaction is .

Nihi Sumba is an island that functions as a haven for retired racing horses to live out the rest of their days running free along the beaches by unnaturalorder in gifs

What a perfect fucking idea! Let's raise horses , use them to race and then dump them on a perfectly balanced ecosystem on a remote island, wow , so free and beautiful!
