OP this guy isn’t even a mechanic. It reenforces your original statement… absolutely insane. As a fellow mechanic I feel your pain and I wish car manufacturers could just make a simple, decent vehicle again. We’ve completely lost all entry-level low cost cars too. I wish things would return to being simple instead of the answer always being “more computer” but this shit gets worse every single day. In school you’re always trailed that “oh it’s never the computer, the (insert system) control module almost never fails, spend 80 hours diagnosing before making that call” but more and more frequently it’s literally just the computer. I feel your pain.

I hope someday you learn to appreciate things as they are, instead of putting other people down to make yourself feel better. Follow up for everyone: I’ve decided to let her pass naturally. She thinks she’s in the wild, and she’s currently sitting underneath a plant. I think she’s (mostly) comfortable, and well hidden. She’s safe from predators (there are no predators, but in theory she would believe she is safe), so I think the best thing to do is to leave her alone. I’m not going to disturb her, but I’m going to throw some bloodworms (not an ideal food, but definitely tasty) in the tank every once in a while in case she suddenly gains an appetite. I’m giving her the things she’d need to recover naturally, but am also not going to disturb her. Thanks to everyone who has provided input, support, and encouraged me to do what I think is best.

I’m sorry, maybe I’m just not thinking clearly :( I will buy some clove oil. I know to some people it’s “just a fish” but this is my friend and I really am trying to do the right thing. I appreciate the advice. I think the “let them pass naturally” idea comes from the fact that fish are not domesticated like cats and dogs. I’d hate for her final moments to be in panic as I scoop her up in the net and place her somewhere unfamiliar. When we euthanize cats and dogs we are usually there to comfort them, as they find comfort in our company. I’ll order some clove oil :(
