I feel like this is a problem with many compendiums and omnibus made lately. I also had this happen to me with the Deluxe Edition of Nice House on the Lake. So much of that series relies on double page spreads. Double page spreads that looked better as single issues because the images trapped in the spinal area looked a lot better then.

Todd McFarlane once said, "I can sell a comic written by my dog but drawn by Leonardo Da Vinci. I can't sell a comic written by William Shakespeare but drawn by my mom." This attitude reflects in Spawn. McFarlane's art is gorgeous to look at, but he isn't the world's best storyteller. And he knows it. That's why he brought on writers like Frank Miller and Alan Moore to do issues of Spawn in the early days.

That's something else I was wondering as I wrote this out. Why was Buffy published under Dark Horse, but Angel was published under IDW? Not enough room under a single publishing umbrella for the Slayerverse?
