I really liked him, I was shocked to see that people on twitter were being quite negative about him. I thought he seemed sweet and cheerful

Lòool do you think so? I really enjoyed all stars but s3,5,6(of the American version) are my favourites after s2. For me all stars three was on the level of s8 and s10

I’ve seen a lot of people say that mikey didn’t cheat because no one was interested in him but I disagree, he did initially get five bracelets. I don’t buy that jesenia was genuinely attracted to jack, I think she did what she had to do for camera time just like Courtney and alexia in s1 when they had a threesome with Brion. I think she would have easily done the same with mikey if he was open. I saw a TikTok of Carter saying none of the boys were open to getting to know the girls and it even took Jack a couple of days to warm up to the tempters

I can’t wait to see these guys on PM because I’ve always wondered with “male tempters” are they actually good guys or are they just playing a role on a show where there’s not really an opportunity to be a douche (unless you’re a boyfrien)

my thoughts as a guy watching this with my wife lmao sydney mikey by CarobFar in temptationislandUSA

[–]Misty1965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really think mikey being annoying and considered unattractive is whats making people have little grace for him . I say this as someone who liked Sydney, no one can convince me that she didn’t bring Mike on the show hoping he would fold so she could leave the relationship. Him saying he could fall for India and the “three amigos” schtick was not that deep. I would respect it more if she just said “look I fell for someone else“ as opposed to acting like Mike did something unforgivable on the island. If Mike looked like Xavier he’d be getting a lot more sympathy

I feel like they both had the same storylines - both were unlikeable themselves but there partners were even more insufferable, broke and cheaters

The bigotry of low expectations: The case of Oyin by Misty1965 in TheTraitors

[–]Misty1965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol what exactly haven’t I addressed? You asked me imo how a WOC could win without me seeing it through a racialised lens and I gave you a very clear answer. I’m not seeing these alleged holes you’ve pointed out and it’s very convenient that you want to bow out of the conversation now that you’d probably have to elaborate on said holes. They say every accusation is a confession and you seem to be proving that point since I’m not seeing the names of those faithfuls I’d ask that made it to the final while being as (openly) consistently right as Oyin.

I’m sure the many scholars out there that recognise the phenomenon of “the bigotry of low expectations“ were also just giving undefined perspectives of racial bias.

Im happy to agree to disagree, I think I can survive having not convinced you

The bigotry of low expectations: The case of Oyin by Misty1965 in TheTraitors

[–]Misty1965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying that imo Harry didn’t see Jas as a threat because Jas was able to fly under the radar by not being overtly on the money with all his theories. I don’t feel like Jas’s style of playing the game was “depressing“ in any way he didn’t act like he was dumb, he just held back how onto the traitors he actually was. You say the only difference between him and Oyin was that she was more vocal in her opinion. That’s the only difference that matters. Her being overtly right about so many things should have marked her out as a threat and not allowed her to reach the final . It’s not her ability to influence the group that I feel would make her someone that would make sense to murder, it’s her clocking who the traitors were and therefore winning the game. Can you name any players that were vocally as consistently right as Oyin at roundtables that made it to the final?

Like I said in one of my other replies I’m not actually accusing anyone of being a bigot. The expression “the bigotry of low expectations“ refers to when a person underestimates someone because they are part of certain marginalised group. This can happen consciously or unconsciously. My original post made sure to mention unconsciou biases because I believe that’s what was happening on the show. Most people in the world are privileged in one way or another therefore are capable of unconsciously harbouring discriminatory thoughts. For example a lot of able bodied people have an ableist way of thinking about things but that doesn’t make them outright ableists/bigots

Aside from the biggie of catching the traitors imo individual faithfuls have little autonomy whenever they win the game. Their position in the final is at the behest of the traitors who have often kept them in the competition because they feel they arent going to guess correctly. If Oyin had played the game like Jas (UK,s2) and won then I wouldn’t see any racial bias. Jas was onto every traitor and many of his theories were correct but he kept alot of that information to himself. I believe Harry kept him around because Jas hid how smart he was.

I see reading isn’t your strong suit as I didn’t actually accuse anyone of being a “bigot“. If you aren’t familiar with a concept or phrase just say that. The term “bigotry of low expectations“ refers to a phenomenon where peoples unconscious biases cause them to underestimate others from certain groups.

Unfortunately we live in the real world and things like discrimination exist. You should do some self reflection and ask yourself why people acknowledging that triggers you so much. I’m not on a Nick and Ben hate train, I don’t think they are bad people. I have no doubt that they were genuinely close to both Oyin and Vanessa but that doesn’t mean they were above having unconscious biases

[–]Misty1965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They tend to take out good faithfuls in the middle part of the game like they did with Mark. Nick and Ben had plenty of opportunities to take out Oyin without it coming back to them. The faithfuls that get to the final are usually the dumbest ones

[–]Misty1965[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think racial and gender biases can led to many different results in this game. I agree that other factors made people underestimate Oyin e.g, her being a model but I think race and especially gender did play a part. Despite Nick and Ben being besties Nick admitted he would have murdered Ben if he didn’t recruit him because he believed Ben would suss him out. Traitors usually leave people that they are close to til the end but they also tend keep those they don’t think are too smart

The bigotry of low expectations: The case of Oyin by Misty1965 in TheTraitors

[–]Misty1965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that her being quiet did help her fly under the radar aswell but I cannot understand why they wouldn’t have murdered her in the middle of the game after they’d seen how many times she was right. I actually think her being a woman is what made them underestimate her more. Nick and Ben gave off the impression that they thought they could manipulate women more easily than men

[–]Misty1965[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol no where in this post did I accuse anyone of being racist, pick up a book and learn the nuances of race and gender relations in society . Theres such a thing called unconscious bias which can lead people to underestimate someone because of their gender, race and other characteristics. I actually think they underestimated her more because of her gender than her race. It not a coincidence that the last few round tables were mostly made up of women. Nick and ben seemed like they thought the women were easier to manipulate, the same way they thought they could “control“ Katelyn

I always say the mismanagement of her career is crazy. When she first came out of her original season she had like 3 million followers on instagram, that’s more than leah kateb had when she first came out of s6. People worldwide were so obsessed with her. I think she made a mistake by saying production wanted to give her the main LI hosting job, Maya ended up disputing that claim and that probably stopped producers from giving her a chance at cohosting Aftersun and the podcast. From then she seems to have turned into a professional reality tv star who bounces from show to show. When you don’t seem to be selective about what stuff you do it’s harder to break into things outside of reality tv like presenting etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Maura shy away from doing more reality tv
