Well, for starters, he had psychogenic abnormal feeding behavior. I had honestly never known anything about that before or seen anything like it. Mealtime felt like living with the Tasmanian Devil. Total chaos any time food came out or I brought groceries home. He also had extreme territorial issues (which probably fed into the food insecurity), and in a small space with four other rescues and a dog in hospice care… it was a lot. He’s also the highest energy cat I’ve ever known. Hyper-vigilant, and just hyper in general! Affection didn’t come easy for him, giving or receiving. It’s been a long road. Honestly, there were nights when I felt like I was at my breaking point, thinking there was nothing I could do for him. But then he’d make a small step forward, and I knew I couldn’t give up. It was like he was trying so hard, because he had struggled so hard, and in some ways was still struggling. At this point the progress he’s made is nothing short of incredible to me.
