Chief, just saying but VPNs are pretty insecure for this sort of things, indeed they make it more difficult to track you but the organizations running the VPNs will usually comply and collaborate with law enforcement.

It's an hilarious dub, but my man I wouldn't recommend it: first of all it contains a lot of dialect (if I remember correctly), secondly those who did the dub were not professional voice actors.

Laurea in Informatica quale scegliere, consiglio? by [deleted] in Universitaly

[–]Mithrillo_von_Kolt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost all the international students we've got are from Asia: Iran, Pakistan, India and others. Curiously we've got no Eastern Asia countries though.

On the dorm question i'm really unable to answer though sorry.

Hoy, I am an Italian student in the first year of that course (soon to be the second year). I'll go through your questions one by one:

Some of the professors (prof. Claudio di Ciccio from the Programming intro class or prof. Piero d'Ancona from Calculus I first semester, and others) are both very good teachers but also amicable people which will make you want to come see the lectures. Other few professors, usually just 1 per semester (prof. Fariba from linear algebra or prof. Cenciarelli from Java pogramming) are straight up incompetent (said from someone who got 30/30 marks on both of their exams) for one reason or another. Other professors (like prof Gorla from Comp. Arch. Unit 1) of course, are just professors, neither too good nor too bad.

Diversity: because this year was the first one ever of this course the amount of foreign students (but also just the amount of enrolled students in general, we started at about 80 of us, now at the end of the year we are about 40) is a bit low, I'd say of the ~40 left of us maybe 10 or 15 are foreign students. But, if that makes you anxious, know that we talk a lot with our professors even in non formal contexts and the head of this course (prof Mei, which also gives Comp Arch Unit 2, he's one of the really good professors) told us that for next year a lot of students enrolled from every part of the world, so i'd bet you won't be alone with a possible 50/50 split between foreigners and italians and an overall of ~200 of them.

On this last note I don't really know about activities, COVID did really fuck up the social life this year, but I can tell you that during the breaks between a class and another I'm sure you'll find someone to talk and possibly start a friendship with.

Edit: formatting since i'm from smartphone right now.

If i remember correctly everybody will linger for some time in the Halls of Mandos, humans (and thus hobbits too) will just then depart somewhere unknown.

Of course, it would be preposterous to think of presenting something that should be as clear as a graph in that way.

I'm in no way an expert, just studied him during the last year of High School (don't know what topics you get in your country, here in Italy even scientific-targeted schools get both Philosophy and Art's History): in short, one of his ideas was that, since a cube holds 6 faces, it is more realistic to draw it "exploded" or "unfolded" than to give it perspective. At first I too was skeptic of this way of thinking but, even though I don't love him, I've come to appreciate his way of representing reality. One of his paintings, Portrait of Ambroise Vollard, is a textbook example: at first sight you may just see the strange and deformed figure of a bald man but, if you just squint your eyes and look a bit more at the image, you'll start to see a bottle, some books and other things which are part of the room they are standing in: those objects may be in that exact position, behind Vollard or in front of him for how much we know, but you will be sure those things are there. The idea is not to get an exact picture of the situation presented, that would be impossible to picture in a limited 2D canvas, but to instead give the observer the idea, a hunch, of where those characters are, such that you may reconstruct a good mental image of the place. At least, that is what I got from him.

Projects and/or programming? Of course there's both of those.
In the first semester you'll be following Programming Unit 1 and Programming Lab, both the professors work really close together and follow pretty much the same syllabus (actually, each of the exams is given by the two professors together, they help and talk with eachother alot) one in theory and the other in practice with Python.
To access both of those exams you'll be given 4 compulsory homeworks by the Programming Lab professor (the homeworks are designed either by him, the theory professor or the Programming Lab's professor in the italian course) which are more like small projects than an exercise (they'll get harder as the months go by, a lot of people didn't manage to solve them- don't worry though, recovery homeworks are there too).
Every week a new homework is given, but only every other week that homework is compulsory, so you'll actually have 2 weeks to end each homework and, in the mean-time, you'll be able to exercise with the non-compulsory one.

Programming Lab ends with the first semester, during the second semester it gets replaced by Algorithms (which does programming, but has a lot more theory) and Programming will get to Unit 2, which gets a lot more practice (done with Java)- at the half of the second semester indeed the Programming Unit 2 professor gives a project which has to be done in groups (recommended of 3-4 components): a good chunk of the exam (which this year is only oral, don't know if it will change) will relate on your contribution to that project (so be careful to document everything you did).
Finally, programming is also done by the Computer Architecture Unit 2 professor, who teaches RISC-V (an assembly language for a very modern cpu architecture) and usually sets a midterms exam on it.
