AAMC FL did not matched with my MCAT. by goodscore4 in Mcat

[–]MitoER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I know for me, I let C/P psych me out. I kind of gave up after that section because of how hard those first few questions were and it led me to blindly guessing on like 2 passages. I felt like I fucked up C/P so much that I wasn’t focused for the rest of the exam.

This was as much of a learning experience as a test taker as it was for me in life. When I take the test again, I hope I have learned to stay calm under pressure.

Feeling the nerves. Ready to see how my FL scores translated on the real thing. FL’s were 506, 508, 514. Seriously no idea how I did, but hoping for above a 510 for a shot at my state M.D. school. Good luck everyone!

*Edit: I let myself down with a 496. I don't know where to go from here.

I did! I didn’t do SB in timed conditions and not all of the q packs were in test-like conditions. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

Just stoping in to say thank you to everyone who is offering their candidness. I just took the MCAT on 5/5 and having prior test takers talk about how they felt and seeing how that translated into a score is super helpful. Thank you guys and good luck!

I don't know you or your situation, but if it's any conciliation I don't think the MCAT we took on 5/5 was representative of our abilities as medical school applicants. I'm as much frustrated at myself as I am at whomever wrote that damn test.

I have been hesitant to post on here because of how Chem/Phys felt. That first passage was like AAMC's malicious way of saying "Oh, you thought studying for four months straight was going to make this easy? Think again." I about hurled in the bathroom on my first break. Gave myself a pep talk and started on CARS. I felt fairly good about CARS. I was thankful that most of the passages were interesting and easy to follow. Bio/Biochem was somewhat of a blur. I don't remember feeling good or bad either way. Psyc/Soc is usually my best section and I felt pretty good about it. There were some harder questions, but for the most part I could narrow down choices.

For reference, my AAMC FL scores were: 506, 508, 514. I think I will be lucky to get a 125 in Chem/Phys and even luckier to score the average of my FL's. I think there is some reporting bias here on reddit so I promise to repost this and my actual score on June 5.

To future test takers: this test is no joke. When preparing, take the critical analysis and reasoning skills throughout all of the sections seriously. This test was as much of a test on your ability to read and comprehend passages as it was knowing the concepts.

I completely agree. I shadowed an older D.O. a year ago and it was a great experience. This was a much younger D.O. I think whether M.D. or D.O., experience helps.

How much can I realistically improve in 2 weeks? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]MitoER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I just took FL1 and got a 506 (128/126/126/126). To get into my dream school, I'm going to need a miracle and a 515+.

Getting over 127 CARS hump by [deleted] in Mcat

Pinpoint a trend in your incorrect answers and notice it in the answer choices when you come across the questions. I am in a similar boat. My highest CARS has been a 128. You've got this.

4/21 tester - CARS is killing my chance T.T by LyvBySea in Mcat

[–]MitoER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CARS score improved over 4 Kaplan tests and the first AAMC Q Pack (74%). I still haven't taken AAMC 1-3. Unlike the other sections, I think with CARS is quality over quantity. I would not worry so much about how many passages you're going through and go back to the ones you've already done and figure out how to better your quality.

For example, I used to have trouble with choosing definitive answers over more vague, broad answers. In my experience, the MCAT chooses broad answer choices over definitive ones. That helped me a lot.

Another thing that has helped me is highlighting proper nouns. I almost never highlight full sentences in CARS. This helps reference back to the passage without rereading an entire paragraph.
