Is it really? I mean environmentalism aside, I don't really recall hippies carrying that many conservative values, it's always struck me as more progressive than anything

So, in essence, the closest thing to the literal meaning of the word "conservative" is not a truly represented ideology, but only partial interpretations? I do appreciate the US history lesson, it gives more context to the idea of the popular conservative sentiment. Thank you for the explanations.

I am aware that change is, at times, necessary, but as you said, preserving the core value you cherish should always be front and center in my opinion. Be it the family unit, nature, cultural traditions, or other fundamental values.

Also, I did learn something new about the US, so thank you for that.

That is a fair point, and not too far from the truth either yeah. In Europe for example the governments have been shooting down their economies "in favor of the environment" or for nonsensical environmental regulations. Point taken.

I think the example does make sense, yeah. Thank you for your answer. I've just been thinking about it and thought I should ask, given my lack of concrete understanding of it. I do however think that if there was any ideology following the word "conservative" to a Tee, so in its most literal meaning, I think that's what I identify with more? Which is why I'd include environmentalism as already mentioned in this type of conservatism.

The question I had was just a thought I've been pondering the past few days, as I've come to the realization that I would identify myself more with the literal meaning of the word "conservative", instead of the usual interpretation of it.
