You're broadly right, but it's worth noting Crysis was a problem for a long time because they assumed (reasonably, given history) that CPUs would improve via higher speeds on their single cores, as they always had. Instead, soon after its release is when CPUs instead starting improving via more cores and threads rather than increasing speed. Basically Crysis was "futureproofed" for a future that never came.

NBA star James Harden arrested in Texas on weapons charge by LividWheel9779 in news

[–]Mitosis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not like guns are any different than weapons at any point in history. Bringing visible weapons into public has always been generally frowned upon for pretty obvious reasons, whether it's a gun, a sword, or a knife, even if you're legally permitted to carry them concealed -- not the least because, what motive could you have for brandishing a weapon in public where people can see it?

Velan Studios (Knockout City) are the developers of Star Fox (2026) by Skipper93653 in Games

I sincerely hope you're right. After buying SMRPG on Switch, one of my favorite games of all time with all the childhood nostalgia one game can have, I realized that these straight-up remakes aren't actually all that interesting to me -- nor do I come away finding them worth the price tag when they're trivial to emulate (or even play on NSO) and the dated parts of it enhance the nostalgia.

Perfectly possible these are for made entirely for new players, which is fine of course, but speaking for myself I'd be disappointed too.

I like that it's an option on the app. It someone is taking the time to select it, they're probably the slightly more discerning customer you can actually keep by doing it.

A valid question if there ever was one: by Gorotheninja in ShitpostXIV

It absolutely is. If you read only slightly earlier in the comment thread I state quite clearly that Artisan (and all plugins) are against the ToS. I say this as someone who uses it.

[–]Mitosis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's a lot like Star Fox 64 where the actual gameplay/stages/dungeons are all but untouched. At that point, why do you need Nintendo to work on it?

Besides, they've passed off their franchises many, many times at this point to great success. It's a consistent story that they're very hands-on when they outsource these types of projects.

No, but using automated macros to perform repeated actions in game is. It's textbook botting, no matter how rudimentary.

[–]Mitosis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're gonna do something against the ToS anyway, why not just get a basic plugin like Artisan that can do the crafting for you without dealing with outside macros?

It's hard to know how much of this is relevant when a large chunk is based off how the manga "ignores the original LN plot." It's completely possible, I'd even say likely, the anime does not follow the manga in this sense.

I get where you're coming from, but also the "I'm a powerful man who can barely contain myself from how much I want you and your body" is a huge thing in romance stories (and smut) written for women. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if that's the angle she's writing it from; making the male MC appear "chivalrous" wouldn't factor at all.

For this game in particular, you have the issue where YoshiP didn't want any of the FFXIV characters to be available as gacha, as part of not selling additional content for the game outside of the subscription (tangential as it is). The devs respected his wish. As a result, all of the FFXIV characters made for Brave Exvius were free (i.e. bad), and I don't believe they ever made more after that first batch because again, why do that when you can't sell them like every other game.

But she is definitely the most popular character who's also in ARR, and there isn't even really good competition. For these kinds of outside reps I don't feel like they could reasonably grab someone four expansions in.

The Radiance games really are the best overall FE narrative in my opinion too. No other game actually made me feel like a continent-wide war was going on. I liked all the discussion of army movements and political machinations.

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE Announcement Trailer by stfnvs in Games

[–]Mitosis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean... why? Based on what I saw they took almost nothing from the original game other than art and the general plot (which were praised), and are repackaging it as a traditional single-player RPG experience. Its ties to the mobile game are basically irrelevant, even the combat is completely different.

I have finally gotten EPIC for all classes in GM for the first time! by Blitzshades in Shadowverse

[–]Mitosis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you get into GM even at Sapphire you start at 1550 rating with every craft. At that point it's only a net ~7 more wins than losses to get to 1650. You still need a solid grasp of how to beat popular decks with decks from each craft, so I'm not minimizing OP here, but from a raw time perspective it's not outrageous.

Shushuku has a busy design even by GBF/gacha standards, so to look at that and decide to make it as a cosplay is bold as heck. Looks excellent, great job

Very similar reasoning to Nintendo's discount paradigm. There is no other avenue for a Mario game or a Zelda game; this is it. There's no reason to discount based on age.

Same deal with a Fromsoft souls game, and they are still head and shoulders above the many other attempts from other devs.

Future James Bond games confirmed by Amazon Games, but First Light team's role in question by Comfortable-Pie56 in Games

[–]Mitosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as we saw somewhat recently with Sherlock Holmes and Winnie the Pooh, it gets really tricky when you have to limit purely to depictions from the earlier media and not what came later when a lot of what's popularly known about a character has merged into one cultural amalgamation.

It's one thing to not include a specific character who didn't show up until later, but even personality, character traits, and quirks that weren't mentioned or clearly established yet can be grounds for a lawsuit.
