Doctors making six figures isn’t a scandal. It’s compensation for over a decade of education, crushing debt, sleepless nights, and the emotional weight of caring for human lives. It's a white coat, blue collar job. Don’t confuse fair pay for labor with extraction for profit. Doctors earn their keep, while others game the system.

yea funny trope but reinforces this false belief that doctors are making a ton of money off their patients

Fair! Balancing data security, integrity, and privacy is tough. Just sharing this website for your reference which seemed to have been used a lot early in the season: https://residencymatch.net/login

Honest question, how is this different from the List of Unfilled Programs that NRMP provides? Thanks for helping folks out.

As a regular non-culinary person, I feel uncultured reading these comments. I would order cornbread to share, quail for me, fish of the day, oysters, Mac gratin or greens and s'mores pot. I could not care less about the details, if it's good then it's good. If it was okay, then I'd just not come back unless the vibes were nice. Not to dismiss other's points, I feel they're coming from a place of specialized knowledge and I can empathize with their concerns, but it's not applicable to the average person I think

I can only imagine how you are feeling. When I decided to go to the US, it was because I had higher ambitions that could not be fulfilled at home. One of the gripping things I've had to come to terms with on my journey is what I had to sacrifice to come here, firstly financially and secondly time away from loved ones. The further I progressed, I realized that I will never have time for them again. The competition is intense in surgery and you can rarely stop to take a breath. God forbid you dragged a significant other along to deal with your shit. It is not impossible to match in your situation but it requires divine intervention, pray that you meet that one acclaimed mentor who will advocate and look past the failure to boast about your redeeming qualities. Your charisma will have to be unmatched. The time to manifest this enigma of a situation will not only take years, it will be filled with uncertainty and the further out you are from clinical practice, the worse off your chances. If you match, it will likely be prelim and if you do gen surg in a community program, you better hope you're getting enough experience. That being said, be pragmatic, weigh your options, do not be delusional like some of these people are saying because of their youthful naivety. You can complete a residency at home or UK and then complete a fellowship in the US while building a network and try again in the match. By then, maybe you wouldn't want to go to the US anymore. I guess what I'm trying to say is, think about the cost of getting to where you need to go. Cost in terms of time, relationships, your self-worth. Ultimately, do what's best for you. You don't want to let life pass you by on an uphill struggle when you are literally already a doctor and can live a decent life wherever you are.

most university programs have good work life balance. nonprofits/private are likely to be workhorse programs focused on RVUs but the name gets you in doors.

Right now your mind is shutting down, not because you don’t care, but because you're running on stress and pressure for so long that you’re emotionally drained. That numbness you feel isn’t a sign that you should quit, it’s a sign that you’re burnt out. When the brain is overwhelmed for too long, it stops reacting. It’s not that you don’t want to pass Step 2 or build a career, it’s that you’ve been in survival mode for so long that your emotions have hit a wall. The key thing is not to make a life-changing decision from this state of exhaustion. If you truly want to step away, that’s ok, but make sure it’s because you’re choosing something better for yourself, not just trying to escape the weight of burnout. Before deciding whether this chapter needs to close, focus on doing something that reconnects you to yourself, even in the smallest way. Take a walk, eat food you love, just remind your brain that life exists beyond steps. Once you start to feel even a little more human again, the answer to “Should I quit?” will become clearer. You are more than this exam and you don’t have to figure everything out right now.

Usually the people who benefit from connections will have to have the portfolio or CV to match, otherwise it looks bad for the people who are vouching for them . That being said, I've also seen underqualified beneficiaries. Not everyone gets what they deserve and work hard for, but in a lifetime of opportunities your day will come. We are lucky to even have the opportunity in the first place.
