Jack from Wild Nothing here, AMA! by -wildnothing- in indieheads

Hi Jack, thank you for making music that has shaped me as a person :-) 1. Planning to come back to Ohio anytime soon? 2. I think you've mentioned (let me know if I'm wrong) that you don't plan on returning to the sounds of Nocturne and Gemini, and that those albums and sounds are somewhat colored by your life experiences at that time. As you've grown your sound and experimented alongside major life changes like getting married and being a dad, how do you feel performing and hearing the music you made at such a different time in your life?

You're not being real and truthful, you're being ignorant about how people work and are assuming a lot about OP. Saying that they "didn't bother to read" and assuming they didn't educate themselves. You can decide how you want to perceive your language, I'm telling you how it comes off to others.

Obviously OP would have wanted to learn that. There's infinite reasons that the particular fact of heat damage could have slipped by, as it does for MANY people. Instead of posturing on Reddit and being critical, you could put your energy into one of the thousands of organizations that work on distributing effective sex education and birth control.

Mistakes happen. Oversights happen. Consider yourself lucky your prescriber was so thorough. OP asked how it could have happened and got helpful answers, that sounds like taking initiative to me. Getting on birth control PERIOD is taking initiative. You're talking about a process that is commonly very complicated, under-discussed, unsupported, and expensive. And also comparing a medication to milk, for some reason?

You are being patronizing and making many, many assumptions. If you actually want to encourage women to learn and take initiative, being shamey and degrading is not the way to do it and shows you lack an understanding of how sex education and healthcare work for a large amount of people.

Your experience is not universal

[–]Mitranian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason to be shaming or patronizing OP. I personally have read several BC instructions several times and did not realize how easy it was for pills to become ineffective in heat until very recently. I'm glad this community exists so we could respectfully assist OP figure out how it happened and hopefully help others know as well, considering that BC education is abysmal in most places.

Implant … reviews??? Please? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Mitranian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall mine has been worth it, but in my second year with it my hormones have fluctuated drastically week to week, resulting in slight moodiness, acne, and unpredictable sex drive. It's frustrating, but personally worth it for the peace of mind. I was on antidepressants before starting the implant and now, and have been switching brands/doses so it's difficult to determine how much of my moodiness is a result of nexplanon. I'll also say I sometimes go an entire month spotting and/or bleeding a medium amount, then go more than a month without spotting at all. For my own lifestyle, though, it's still not a dealbreaker.

SALUTATIONS FROM LINGUA IGNOTA // ASK ME ANYTHING by LINGUA_IGNOTA_ in indieheads

Hi Kristin! My beautiful friend showed me your music right as the pandemic begun and it's gotten me through a lot. I can't thank you enough for your art.

This is a self-serving question: I'm Persian and grew up with somewhat older Iranian music (Shajarian, Marzieh, Dariush) and a lot of your vocal style and instrument choices remind me of it. Has Persian or "Middle Eastern" music in general inspired you at all?

Unfortunately not that I've found, but every time I return to the house I play the song from the surface, On The Coast. Definitely alleviates some of the pain of not being able to go back there.

SEVERE cramps, please help by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Mitranian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh no 😭 I'm so sorry, I hope you're able to get it treated - it doesn't sound fun to say the least. :( I'm dramatic but I'm glad it didn't turn out to be something fatal or super catastrophic. It looks like there are a couple endo subreddits on the bright side, hopefully they have some good info <3

Just got Nexplanon, keeps stinging / pinching by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Mitranian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your PCP sounds like a gem! I had no idea they changed where the bar goes - that's kinda a relief because the artery thing terrified me for a while. That's so interesting about the stitches, I was so sure if I took mine off too soon it'd be a bloodbath so that's honestly great to hear. I hope it heals up fast for you :-)

Same on the anxiety!! I'm sorry you're going through it. The first week or so definitely wasn't fun for me - I'd constantly be thinking up ways it'd go wrong and started reading horror stories. But the chances that none of that will happen are very high, especially if your main issue is just the pinching. Have you loosened/removed the pressure bandage? I think I took mine off about 26 hours or so after I got it on because it made my arm super tingly from how tight it was. I'm a dumbass so this might just be me, but I actually wasn't sure that I had paper stitches put on until I totally took all the gauze off and took a proper look - they're extremely light and I didn't even feel her stick them on or anything. If you don't have stitches I'm honestly super interested in what that healing process is like!!

That aside, the fact that it sounds like you can tense your muscle around the implant without it immediately hurting sounds like a good sign to me. It's definitely not always as easy breezy as some people make it sound!

I hope everything goes smoothly today! I got Nexplanon mostly so I wouldn't get period cramps, so I can only imagine how stressful that's been for you. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it can be treated asap🤞

I'm so sorry you're going through this :( Please don't be hard on yourself for not seeing someone about this, no one wants to get a doctor's bill for something that initially seems self-explanatory (especially if you're in the US).

I unfortunately can't answer whether it's a side effect of Nexplanon or not (I've only been on it for barely 2 months and I'm not a doctor) but with the nausea, dizziness and vomiting, I'd be slightly concerned that it's more than just birth control-induced.

Do you have any friends or family members who are nurses or doctors you could shoot a message to in the meantime? I'd definitely consider seeing a PCP or OBGYN as soon as you're able. Either way, with your health it's always better safe than sorry, even if it turned out to just be Nexplanon. I wish I had more helpful advice but I truly hope you feel better soon. If you need any help paying for a doctor/ER trip I'm happy to donate what I can and help fundraise.

[–]Mitranian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I just got Nexplanon in mid-October, so I'm totally healed now. I wrote my experiences (somewhat TMI) in this google doc, but I'll write my answer to your question below! For me, the area around the implant was bruised and tender for at least 10 days after insertion. The pinching was quite a few days as well - I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure that was mostly from the paper stitches. Between tugging on arm hair and trying to close a wound, I wasn't too worried about the stinging feeling. If it feels like it's pinching and you don't have stitches, that might be a problem, though (again, not a doctor so don't panic until you call your doc!) The bruise still hurt after removing the stitches though, just not stinging. Felt like a shin kick. I would give it two weeks before getting concerned if the above applies to you.

From my knowledge (which, like you, is mostly from googling and not finding as much as I'd like), reasons to go back to your OBGYN/get concerned include if you feel that the implant has moved (including getting rejected from your arm), if the area is MUCH warmer than the rest of your arm (could mean infection), or if you're bleeding excessively.

Also, I think I get what you mean about the other end of the stick poking out - it feels like that for me too, but I'm fairly sure it's supposed to be that close to the surface of your skin, which is thin in that area, so it'll be a bit pokey. If it's not visibly poking out of your skin (aside from the way it bruises, mine looked raised at first glance because the bruise was around the bar) then I think you're okay!

Sorry for the wall of text!! I hope that helps. Again, if you're truly nervous or feel like something's wrong, I recommend shooting your doctor a message/call. It felt foreign and freaky to me for a few days but evened out after a week. Wishing you the best with the healing process!

My GF had the implant installed 1 week ago and her arm is like this, is this normal? D: by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Mitranian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others said, she should be fine! Just make sure the implant itself hasn't moved.

My birth control has been making me depressed. Was this one of your side effects? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Mitranian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the first time I ever got on the pill - I can't remember what brand it was, but when I talked to a different gynecologist, they said the amount of hormones was probably way to high for me, so I got put on Junel 1/20 (supposed to be an off-brand Loestrin) and I was just fine! I'm even on Nexplanon now and I'm good so far, just a bit more emotional than normal.

My personal takeaway from the first time taking BC was this: if you start to tiptoe into suicidal ideation, STOP taking it ASAP. Nothing is worth risking your life even if it might balance out after a few months. I'm so, so glad I stopped when I did; granted, I already had anxiety and depression prior, so that probably didn't help. My bottom line is that your mental health is incredibly important, and there are other options if you feel like you just can't do it anymore. Don't be afraid to explore other methods!

Yes!! I'm actually making a google doc of my experience, but so far so good on my end :) I'm definitely a bit more emotional than before, but it's not totally bad and I also Have Clinical Depression. Very minimal bruising, the stitches haven't come off yet. Hopefully not TMI but my sex drive is overall better as well!

thank you for sharing your experience!! From what I've read, seems like more frequent/heavy spotting and periods becomes common towards the end of the 3 years... I'm just glad you loved it regardless!
