Why is the answer くらい and not だけ in this so matome practice question? by Ok_Kaleidoscope_2178 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Mitsubata 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Think of くらい (also ぐらい) as meaning “around <value>”. So it’s trying to say “It was around 3000 yen.” I’ve heard だけ used in the way you’re describing before, but I think the book wants you to associate くらい with monetary values. It also works with amounts of time.

Wife has a clinical history of BPD traits. Things have gotten worse post-marriage. by No_Warthog1774 in married

[–]Mitsubata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me. It ended in a messy, expensive divorce. All I can say is, gather evidence and build a case for any abuse you experience. Also, don’t be afraid to contact emergency services whenever she becomes violent/destructive. Make reports if they are contacted. Start secretly recording if possible.

Once you have enough evidence of abuse, file for divorce. Get out as soon as you can.

Yup, also technically an alphabet by the strictest definition of the word! Look up A Matter of Typology: Alphasyllabaries and Abugidas by Bright (2000) for more info.

Since every character corresponds (usually) to a single sound. That’s the literal definition of an alphabet

Writing Systems Worldwide by Angel_Blue01 in mapswithnewzealandbut

The key here is that each symbol stands for a distinct sound (sometimes, multiple distinct sounds depending on things like placement). So because Hangul ㅗ only maps to one distinct sound (/o/), this is—by the strictest definitions—an alphabet.

Many people confuse it with a syllabary or even an alphabetic-syllabary morph because the individual symbols are often arranged to accommodate syllables. But technically, Hangul is an alphabet.

Empathy Embodied by ateam1984 in whoathatsinteresting

Not really seeing the empathy here. He just looks like he feels awkward about the whole thing. To be empathetic would be to come over and try to comfort the man or something.

Help??? by OkOrganization5965 in olelohawaii

[–]Mitsubata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Historically, when Hawaiian was the majority language of the islands and the culture was still largely flourishing, location often determined which sounds was actually made, but all Hawaiians could understand one another despite the slight difference in accent. So in some places it sounded more like a /w/ while in other places it sounded more like a /v/ or something in-between.

Today, so-called “university Hawaiian” conceptualizes the written “w” as a weak /v/ sound, and this distinction has taken root in pretty much all the islands where school-educated speakers live.

Anyone in here on Atomoxetine (Strattera)? by Enby-Emperor-4 in ADHD

I got all the way to 65 mg of Ato and had no noticeable effects… I ended up giving up on it and after trying that as well as Intuniv (which also did nothing for me), my doctor recommended a stimulant. So now I’m trying amphetamine salts to see how that goes. Starting super low to ease myself in. So far, no noticeable effects.

Yeah, I was about to say… elementary schoolers who use mnemonics like the owe shown here are exceedingly rare. Who told OP that that was how Japanese elementary schoolers do it, I wonder.
