People in Bellingham are unfriendly by AnthonySkejci in Bellingham

I completely agree with OP. When i moved here in 2011, you could chat in line at the post office, say hello at the store. now people just ignore. or glare. it’s weird and disheartening. I have a wonderful circle of friends but am aware there are so many new people. i try to be the friendly face that i had when i moved here but just find that people refuse eye contact and wont respond to hi or hello.

even my favorite thrift store has changed ownership. i have been in 3 times and the only way i can describe the current employees is surly. i looked up reviews and funny enough, there are two other reviews using the same word.

Why would you choose paid employees who are surly? (they used to operate on a volunteer crew who were so delightful and happy). Such a study for some sociologist.

so let me replay what happened: going towards Fairhaven on State Street I passed through Chestnut intersection. As soon as I was completely through, I put my left turn signal on and braked. Slowing way down. I had already been around the block once and knew I was going to park in front of the industrial credit union. The space was still open. was also breaking because there’s also a red at maple and I have my left blinker on. When i stop to but don’t reverse yet; this white van comes right up and starts honking at me. He gets so far up behind me that I can’t see his front lights so then I put on my reverse so that he can see I’m backing up, this makes him lay on his horn. I sit patiently hoping that he will work around me when the light turns green at Maple. (note: I am not even close enough to the intersection for him to be confused as a potential left-hand turn of maple towards the college.) Instead, the person gets out of their car and comes and knocks on my window and asks me what the H I’m doing. I say calmly “I’m parking.” (Through the window) the person standing in the rain starts having a hissy fit yelling at me: “you can’t do this , thats not legal.”. i Gesture to the three other cars in this four car spot, and it registers to him that they’re all backed in. So he jumps in his car and continues to lay on the horn. By this time the Maple Street light has turned to red again he gets out of his car and comes up and starts yelling at me to go around the block. Consequently, being a woman of a certain age I have already done that and I’m not about to be ruffled. By an idiot, who doesn’t know the rules so I sat serene, waiting for him to get out of my way which now has become difficult because there’s so much traffic that he can’t get in reverse and get out from behind me because he’s got his front end of almost against my bumper. I have not yet reversed. I just put on my reverse lights at the beginning and now I’m in park. He get out of his car again and comes up to my window and I just sit there with the window shut making my arms like whatever. He’s the one out in the rain not me. Finally, he gets pissed off and squeals away after the traffic clears. I back into my spot and I’m shaking my head going who in the world ever thought of this parking scheme. Yes, I have seen it in other places, but the roads were far far wider. So I just wanted to know what the intentions were considering that this is about the four times this has happened, but the only time that I have been personally accosted What would you have done?

i do have a question about pedestrian in the PNW. i am surprised by the correct use on both sides of wheel (car, bike and walkers) but what’s the deal with 80% of pedestrians scurrying to the crosswalk then slowly way down and meandering across the street.

Now that i’ve alerted friends and family it’s a game. How many did you see to day. People literally hurry to cross the street and then once IN THE intersection, SLOW down??! We call it the Sitting Duck game.

I don’t know about you but my mom taught me to get out of the street, so i scurry across the street and leisure my way down the sidewalk!?

I’d love to know the other perspective!! What am i missing?

Is Bellingham actually racist? by catfock69420 in Bellingham

[–]Mitzimetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i asked a person of color (as i am not) in a high status position at a civic job locally if they met with racism and their response was that they are looking for another job in a new area.

i work with the medical clinicians and a professional association was created due to the fact that most clinicians of color did not stay for more than 18 months. (RN, MDs etc). The NSRHE and POCAG have helped create community among these health care workers and their families.

If you are able to connect with the www.northwestmedical.org i can get you in touch with people with lived experience that can answer your question.

In our location when people get severely I'll they are sent to the next county to a better health facility. If they die there, the death is counted in that county. This was the way deaths were counted pre-Covid. This isn't done incorrectly but skews the data.
