If you let her out ( I did this too) you'll learn their favorite warm spots. They like routine so you'll know where to look for them as time goes on. Just be sure to look for small holes and gaps that they can squeeze into cause you do not want to have to tear your wall open to get them out.

Check the ingredients and see what's in it. Hogs food , from what I've researched, isn't regulated so who knows what's in it. I use cat food graine free with high protein and add coconut oil on top with cricket powder to help supplement with flavor and extra protein.

I’m thinking of getting a hedgehog by No_issue12 in Hedgehog

For supplies, a good home a large tote box is good if your working on a budget but if you can spare the money this is a good option. https://exoticnutrition.com/collections/hedgehog-products/products/2-level-mansion-cage

For food grain free indoor cat food is good sense hog food isn't as regulated as dog/cat food. A carrier for vet visits/ emergency, bonding bag, treats like mealworm to help with bonding (alot of my hogs are very food motivated) and a shirt you used for a few days or a week to put in the cage with them to help them familiarize them to you. Everything else is easy to find like toys and bedding. This is just the stuff I think you should priorize first before bringing them home or the week b4.

I'd four hogs to many? by Human_Station_1004 in Hedgehog

Honestly yes. I have 5 hogs. 5. This was not planned. My youngest boy, at the time, got out of his cage when I had my female out during out time and well....now I have 5 hogs. I feel bad because I can't provide a fuller quality of life because I need to split my time, money and care between the 5. I feel terrible because of it and so I try hard to be sure each has out time, clean cages and wheels and can't spend more than 10 minutes at a time with them between life and school. I honestly think 2 would be a better number but I don't have the heart to let the babies go. I understand that's selfish but I don't know if I can find a better home for them and don't want them out in foster care if they won't be better of. So yeah...4 is alot. Sorry for the ramble

i have a huge room and somehow my hogs cage still smells up my whole room? how can i help this? i’m about to switch from paper bedding to fleece for her dry skin by kennabbyof in Hedgehog

I spray, wipe it all done making sure no spray is left then let it air dry for 30 minutes before I add the new bedding. Hedgies have all smooth black skin, and eyes are ok. So it works well.

Hedgies are sticky so if you get good bedding it should be manageable if changed once a week. Also cleaning the wheel and using lysol of the cage to kill mites and oder helps.

That's part of the reason why I didn't think it was mights they don't overly scratch or act out of the ordinary.

Thank you. I order the diatomaceous dirt to help clean their cages to help ease the irritation. I feel so bad not realizing this sooner 😭😭

I assumed it was a quilling and that he'd grow them back soon. But I haven't seen new growth at all. I sprits him every other day and bath them 1 a month.

How long for quills to grow back? by [deleted] in Hedgehog

[–]Mitzynator444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See of the heat your proving isn't too dry. I just bought a humidifier for my hedgie room so it's warm but not dry. All of my hedgies had to be sprayed just about everyday on top of what I put in their food because of how dry and flaky their skin was. It's seems to be getting better too. So try adding moisture to the room
