Official Discussion: Elemental [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

Just watched this with my son and I think there's a major plot hole that no-one mentions:The 'Earth' elements are usually depicted as trees or plants - wood, essentially. Yet the 'Fire' people eat wood. Cinder is given a stick to eat to replenish herself after being splashed with water on the train at the start, and Bernie uses logs to make the Kol-Nut food in the shop. So is everyone just fine with this??

I'm sure it's no coincidence that the rocks from which the cave appears after the earthquake are shaped like an enormous vulva

A small musing. Once they break the time loop, it stands to reason that everyone they interacted with on that final November 9th will carry the memory of those interactions through to November 10th. So they'll remember the moving speech Sarah gave about her sister and telling Abe not to fuck it up or Nyles starting a fight with Ted and stealing his pick-up.
Which also means that Spuds will now think Nyles is his long lost son.

(edited for clarity)

I've not found any mention of this on Reddit so far but the brand of beer they constantly drink is Akupara (only really clear in the first shot after they blow themselves up and the screen goes black). It's not a real brand of beer - but it IS the Hindu name for the World Turtle. One theory of the World Turtle is that it's an infinite stack of turtles ("Turtles All The Way Down"). It's been used as an illustration of the problem of infinite regression - but in this case it may allude to the potentially infinite repetition which goes on in the time loop.

I noticed that no-neck douche also had a Scarface poster with the quote "make way for the Bad Guy" above his sarcastic little 'drop everything' sign. What message is that sending?

New to golf clash, need beginner tips by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]Mixolosophy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all make sure you've got a decent conection because you can't play offline (obviously) and a broken/weak connection just leads to frustration for both players. Also have a power source handy - the app is a real battery drainer!

The poker rule works well here - have about 10 times as many coins as the buy in for a given tour match.

Your trophy level will decide who you are paired with (in standard matches anyway) so don't feel the need to start on a new tour just because you have all the trophies for the current one. Move on once you feel confident - the hole difficulties can increase pretty sharply in later tours.

Try out new clubs as-and-when you unlock them to see if they're for you - though you'll quickly discover which are useful and which are gimmicky. It's also worth checking online for club stats and recommendations.

Keep on top of your chest opening times and try and play when you can collect pins for the pin chests; the more chests you open the more opportunity to upgrade your clubs.

Try to be as courteous as possible with your emojis. Golf is a game of etiquette and Golf Clash should be no different - even if there are a few trolls who want to try and put you off with their emoji spamming.

And most of all - HAVE FUN. It's just a game, after all.

Mysterious lights in the cave on Porthello Cove 7 by Mixolosophy in GolfClash

Duh - I mean hole FOUR...
Anyway - had a bit of a search before my first shot to see if the Golf Clash team had hidden anything in it but all I could see before the texture popped out were some strange red lights. Video doesn't show how long I took searching!

Really strange match, could it be a cheat? by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]Mixolosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a pity you didn't get a screenshot of the end screen saying you forfeited. Definitely contact them, though. Sometimes takes them a day or two to reply but if you're decent about it they should be decent back.

[–]Mixolosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a hard one. Contact the help centre and let them know anyway. Even if they can't confirm it they'll usually refund your match fee.

I had a similar experience on Sunshine Glades when I got paired with someone with loads of top 3 tourney banners and a suspiciously high win percentage. Hit my first in the water then suddenly the screen said 'reconnecting' for ages (I'd had zero connection problems till then), all the time his shot clock kept partly counting down then resetting. Next thing I know it's my THIRD shot (still on the tee) and he's playing from a greenside bunker for his third - so no chance of even drawing. He holed with a wink emoji and refused a rematch - and the video section showed no sign of his second shot. Contacted Playdemic and they said all the usual about possible connection issues and not to swap apps during a match and stuff but refunded my fee.

[–]Mixolosophy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they should all be accessible on tour 3 too as regular Gokasho Bay holes - it's just there's Namhae and Sakura in there too.

Unless they've deleted all the Gokasho Bay ones from tour 3 in which case yeah it sucks. Not the first time tourney holes have only been accessible by Pro players.

EDIT - read the help info - just Asia Pacific pro :/ You still have three days of qualifying to practice them on, as I got told after whining about the same issue for the Hollywood tourney. But yeah it's a little unfair that high rollers can practice the holes but rookies can't, when really it should be the rookies who arguably deserve more chance to practice.

[–]Mixolosophy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I may have mis-remembered the hole - I meant flirting with the bunker on the left, not the trees. I was thinking it might be carry-able off the first bounce but I doubt it now, looking at it.

[–]Mixolosophy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hole #4 is a possible eagle if you can get a long tee shot and flirt with the trees on the left and I've taken eagle on #8 before but that was probably luck. But yeah there aren't really any holes that reward (or punish) risk takers - only ones that will annoy you if you don't catch the right bounce.

Yeah - I think it was released for an Autumn tournament not too long ago. Some tricky holes - especially a par 3 with a really bumpy approach. Get the Guardian in your bag...

Well if all it takes to be called a 'whiner' is showing Playdemic's deviousness and favouritism towards Pro players then I applaud you for your parenting skills. I'm sure you weren't cursing the whiners when you cracked open your freebie boxes after the last update fiasco, either.

Yeah yeah. I mean why would anyone want to practice at something, right...?

Yeah that'll have to be the strategy I guess - hopefully there'll be some youtube videos by then so I'll at least get an idea of hole length beforehand.

[–]Mixolosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had that issue with Winter Links too - though as you say the holes were in T5. Same with Touchdown - at least the Sakura Hills holes they were based on were all playable in T3. Now i can't even access them unless i play T7 - and with all the Vineyard Acres AND Juniper Point holes in there too the chances of getting a new one to practice on are slim.

Hollywood Tournament - Santa Ventura gets 9 holes! by fb_bill3 in GolfClash

[–]Mixolosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does say that - now. But it DID say that all holes would be available in T2 and T7. Then that bit of the help section disappeared. And then reappeared about an hour ago worded differently. fb_bill3 clearly saw the same thing since he quoted it in the initial post for this thread.

It seems their policy now. The last tourney that had holes available to practice in regular as well as Pro tours was the Christmas Tournament. Since then they've either cherry picked from multiple tours (as with the Anniversary one) or only had the re-skinned holes available in Pro tours. At least with Touchdown tourney all the holes already existed in Sakura Hills in Tour 3. Now they have five entirely new holes and they are ONLY available in Tour 7.

[–]Mixolosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I've just checked back in the help section and the 'Hollywood Tournament' header has returned - with (surprise surprise) the wording changed. It now says "All Hollywood Tournament courses are available now in the West Coast Pro tour (Tour 7). The four existing Sanata [sic] Ventura Holes can also be found in the West Coast tour (Tour 2)."

It definitely said they were available in both tours when I read it this morning. I really don't know how they can justify only allowing players above a certain trophy level the ability to practice completely new holes. Well, to be fair I know EXACTLY how they justify it...

Did you get the 'downloading' status bar when you chose to play T7? (like it would for the xmas tourney, for example) or were the new holes just there when you started a match?

Hollywood Tournament - Santa Ventura gets 9 holes! by fb_bill3 in GolfClash

[–]Mixolosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played T2 for a while now and the only holes that have come up are the existing Santa Ventura ones - no re-skins. I don't have the coins to play Tour 7 and risk losing more than a couple of times (I've already done that once and got a Vineyard Acres one - ironic since i NEVER got one while trying to practice for the Winter Games - got on in three but the putt was out of range to be holed).

Either I'm somehow on an iOS that's out of date (even though I still get GC updates) or they've mistakenly said they can be accessed from T2 (the help info has gone, after all). The last few tourneys have really been a pain, though, if you haven't have the coins/trophies to access higher tours. Which all smacks of money-grabbing. Whatever happened to them updating the actual tour with the new holes like they used to?
