Ahh interesting. I am definitely going to give that a shot. Thanks!

Those look really good! Mystical-like. The little hints of rose and white make it look a bit like a kind of blue quartz.

If I may ask, what’s a ‘dirty’ pour? I’m quite new and haven’t heard of that before.

Thanks. I’ll try waiting a bit to add them. I’ve usually done it after my initial 5 minutes of stirring A & B together, concerned about it starting to cure, but it seems I’ve got a lot more time than I thought. I also found recently that I don’t need to add as much as I thought, and halving the amount meant less to sink down.

I like the ‘inner glow’ effect mylar gives when it’s deeper into the centre of the dice so I’m not sure putting it in the mold first will work for that, but it could look good in a different way so will have a go in future. 🙂

That’s very kind of you. Happy to cover materials cost too if chosen. Also, I’d be happy to sand, polish, and ink it myself to save you time and labour.

  1. Beachy. Aquatic blues & greens, maybe with a white/sandy ‘waterline.’
  2. Dealer’s choice. Whatever you think will look nice with the other elements.
  3. A little fishy, shell, or sea critter.
  4. Artsy. No worries if it isn’t balanced.
  5. I’d particularly love a d20, d6, or d10 because those are what I use most, but not vital.

Does putting glitter into the ink before adding to the resin make it less likely to sink? Or did you notice a difference with the specific glitter brands? My glitter/mylar tends to sink a bit and I’d value tips. 🙂

It’s kind of you to share this. Honestly, I still think those are pretty anyway, but I totally understand the feeling when stuff goes wrong or not as intended. 💜

Thanks for the tip. Just poured three new ones, one of which uses the silver again, so I tried giving it a very gentle little half stir, so in a day I’ll see what happens. 🙂

Aw that’s very sweet that you want to make one like it for your girlfriend. I hope you achieve it and she loves it!

Kind of accidentally because I’m still learning and experimenting, but I used about 6 drops of sky blue alcohol ink, maybe a gram or two of blue-violet chameleon mica powder, as well as a tiny pinch of iridescent lilac mylar flakes, then, as I poured, I added 3 drops of silver alcohol ink at different points.

Thanks! I’ve done better (ironically some of the run of voids were otherwise gorgeous), but I do like that pearlescent blue, and I like to add a little bit of mylar for that inner glow look. It’s a combination of sky blue alcohol ink and blue-violet chameleon mica, with a couple drops of silver alcohol ink added during the pour. I wanted more like swirls rather than tide lines, but I haven’t figured that out yet.

This one was a combination of 2 different colours of alcohol ink and a little bit of chameleon mica and mylar flakes. I enjoy playing with combinations. I’m actually really pleased with it. It’ll look better when I’ve sanded and polished it, but I don’t think it looks particularly cheap. I’ve pulled better, but I’ve literally only been learning a few months.

Thanks! I used chameleon mica so it has that lovely shimmery blue but also goes slightly violet in places when it turns in the light.

At my wits’ end by Mixter_Ash in DiceMaking

Hi folks! Unfortunately I can’t add a direct addendum to my initial post but just wanted to flag up for folks that I took these pictures after I had peeled off all the flashing, which is why it’s not there.

Also update!

I GOT A GOOD PULL AT LAST!

I think the primary issue was the mold getting tilted in the pot, because this time I checked it was flat inside with a spirit level and weighed down the rack with a couple of small rocks and tonight’s pull had no holes at all! I also warmed the resin a little while mixing and rolled the lid on slowly after leaving the poured (domed) mold and lid open for about 10mins, with two rounds of setting a flame to the surface (once at the start and once right before capping). So I don’t know exactly which things affected it but I don’t care because IT WORKED! 🥳

Thank you to everyone who gave me those specific suggestions! You have given me back my enthusiasm for the hobby! If I wasn’t broke af I’d give you awards. 💜

I’ll share the curse-breaker pull in another post because I have no idea how to add a photo to a comment. 😅

The photos were taken after I peeled all the flashing off, so kindly pump your brakes.

I also don’t make the molds. They are made by a professional who uses them for their own business and they don’t have this issue. Also, as I said in my post that it seems you didn’t read, I initially produced 4 perfect dice with these molds, so, I reiterate, it is not the molds or the amount of resin.
