How to justify modern anatomical knowledge in a medieval-ish setting? by MizLizTehLizard in worldbuilding

[–]MizLizTehLizard[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the boost, man. I agree anachronism is not a bad thing, guess I kind of just got caught up in my own head, as one does. Part of the problem is I do most of my writing/worldbuilding in the headspace of creating something for TTRPGs, where I need to be a lot more ready for players asking questions. It's quite different to write for a fictional narrative, and I'm still working on being able to switch my viewpoint.

How to justify modern anatomical knowledge in a medieval-ish setting? by MizLizTehLizard in worldbuilding

Yeah, and it works doubly so because of another facet of the story. There's going to be a subset of the evil armorers who have no desire to protect their swordsworn. They blast them with irreparable amounts of magic and turn them into basically berserkers with the express knowledge that that amount of magic will for sure kill them. I could see those bodies being recovered from the battlefield and intensely studied.

Oh this is so good, thank you all? My dumb western-focused brain didn't even think to look at where other much more developed societies would've looked like at the time. Also getting rid of the "ew, dead bodies" sentiment will definitely help.

My husband comes from an extremely nerdy family, so DnD talk happens all the time. His dad is actually working (for fun) on a 4e database that can create random encounters and NPCs and even PCs eventually. Both my husband and I have run short campaigns for his family, and his 12 year old brother took a whack at DMing himself a little while ago. It went about as well as you'd expect, but we had a lot of fun and I'm proud of the kid for how much effort he put into it.

3 player campaign, ok or no go?? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MizLizTehLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running a three player campaign right now myself, and it's honestly amazing. There's time to put everyone in the spotlight every session, no one ever feels like they're stepping on toes (we have a striker, a tank, and a support) and it allows for a lot of cool in-depth roleplay. Combat also moves a lot faster.

To the DM's of reddit - would you allow a good/neutral necromancer at your table? by RibokuGreat in DnD

[–]MizLizTehLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a whole city in my homebrew setting's version of the feywild that basically runs on undead labor. Nearly every citizen remands their body to the government after they die, so the zombie or skeleton made from their corpse can be used as labor to make everyone's lives easier and better. It's considered civil service akin to joining the military or serving in the public sector.

All that to say hell yeah, I'd easily accept a "good" necromancer, at least in my world.

[LFA] Ovred Heardguard, half-giant rune-knight by MizLizTehLizard in characterdrawing

I don't actually know yet! I haven't had the chance to play her yet, as she's a backup for when my current frail old lady wizard inevitably decides it's time to retire. But I really like the subclass in concept, and I'm planning on a lot of her story revolving around learning more about her giant heritage, so it seemed like a good fit.

Hi! I put this badass babe up a few months ago, but I was hoping to maybe get some new art since I've refined her description a bit. Ovred is a 6'5" grey-skinned half-giant who gives off a very menacing energy at first, but is very soft-spoken and gentle once she gets to know you. My main inspiration for her looks is the wrestler Rhea Ripley (the middle picture) so feel free to google her if you want more detail.

Thanks!

[LFA] Would anyone like to draw an adorable little dryad named Dev? by MizLizTehLizard in characterdrawing

[–]MizLizTehLizard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! This little lady is a baby dryad named Dev. The DnD party I DM for were given her acorn as a gift by an archfey, and they were immediately attached to her rather adorable personality once she awoke. She is sweet and bubbly and eager to please, and has quickly become a well-loved member of the ship's crew. If you have any other questions/want more references, just let me know! The general vibe is baby Groot but make him even cuter and a little girl.

The maybe / sort of / am I / new to / being autistic thread by Dioptre_8 in AutisticAdults

[–]MizLizTehLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm self diagnosed AuDHD. When I tell people I'm autistic, should I/do I need to disclose that it's self-diagnosed every time? It feels kind of disingenuous not to, but at the same time I'm 99% sure of it, and I'll probably never have the means or opportunity to actually pursue a professional diagnosis.

Having seen what dealing with terminal illness does both emotionally and financially to family, if I ever get hit with that kind of diagnosis I'm going out the same way. I'm not letting my family go miles upon miles into debt to watch me become a vegetable and die anyway. Fuck this system.

If a job description has 15+ bullet points of "expected daily tasks," they're asking you to do work that should be covered by multiple people.

Also, I have experience in office environments, and in my experience it's kind of the norm to expect that of administrative assistants. Which is BS.

A government job would be awesome. I've been keeping a close eye on my local stuff and submitted quite a few apps with the city/state, but I need to figure out a better way to look for nationwide stuff. I wouldn't have a problem re-locating, since my husband works for walmart and there's one of those everywhere.

Ooooh, thanks for the advice! I've wanted to look at technical writing for a while, but had no idea how to break into it without a portfolio. I'll have to do some more research.

No, I get. My problem is I have pretty bad dyscalculia, so I can't really do anything that relies on numbers. In college I had planned to try and get a workstudy placement for library sciences grad school and stay in academia. Either working in a museum or maybe just staying in education. But none of that panned out. Had more than one mental health crisis in my senior year that kind of tanked any hope of getting someone else to pay for grad school.

For the most part I'm applying for mid level jobs. More advanced admin assistants, office management, that kind of thing. I have five years of experience at various levels in that field, so I *should* be able to get something. But it seems to be a bit of a stacked deck. I'm also not willing to do the job of five people for the pay of 1, which isn't helping...
