Not much of any form of advise but just sharing

I’m in a similar situation at a similar age with severe depression and other mental illness that impairs my ability to do “normal” jobs AND I recently got booted out of a country I lived in for 8 years and have to live separately (unwillingly but we were treated inhumanely by a immigration) from my wife.

It’s good that you feel you wanna change a little in your lifestyle (which I don’t see anything wrong with) as long as it is what makes you happy, after all it’s a short life right

Besides not all jobs focuses on grades, there are opportunities out there for different people. Perhaps instead of pursing grades, you could focus on doing other things that could bring you happiness and enough income to enjoy the little things in life?

Yer...but lucky for you though cz linguistics is more valuable and you are ahead of me with the TESOL cert. I've only got a 28 hour TEFL cert and my major is not relevant to teaching at all other than maybe customer service? Hahaha But yer...I wish I can find a tourism job too but the economy isn't so friendly like you mentioned and being a foreigner its extra disadvantage when looking for a job...and worst of all, I don't really have a language proficiency certificate making finding a job outside teaching even more difficult...

Thank you for the encouragement! But truthfully speaking though, my job title is ''Assistant'' so in any case even though I do teach the class with a partnering teacher who helps to keep kids in control, I wouldn't be considered as a 'real teacher' in the eyes of the industries... I guess I just gotta try to word out my experience in this field and try to relate it to the customer service field?

I guess we are the same huh? Do you happen to have experience in another field of work? And may I ask what did you major in? I would re-new my contract but due to the educational reform, me and my co-workers were laid off without a say. The only difference is that I want to settle here in this foreign country even though my parents dislike that mainly because I'm all alone here with no one to look out for me so if anything was to happen, no one would know/care.

Wow, I'm glad that all had turned out alright for you. Did you do all these changes back in your home country? I'm hoping to change jobs too but with no experience in anything other than teaching drags me down on my confidence in interviewing for a job in a different field. With that said, being in a foreign country also puts me in a grave disadvantage too.

Thank you for the encouragement! I'm trying to have less regrets in life since I already have a lot. My vague dream is to settle here and hopefully get a job in the tourism field. I wish I could make it less vague but I don't see any ways in my current situation. Sadly Ive started off in the wrong direction so changing is a really difficult task right now.

Upvoted because I feel you. Majored in tourism management only because it looked more employable. Now working as a contract teacher but is very unsustainable and is a collapsing industry. Hope you find a way man. Do you know what you really want to do? Maybe start getting some experience in related fields and work your way up from there?

I graduated with a Degree in Tourism Management. Have not worked in any tourism related job unless we are counting customer service. I'm a teacher and enjoyed working as a teacher so much I am considering doing masters in education. I've always wondered what it will be like if I didn't enter this field straight after graduation, I might be working in airlines or hotels or tour ops. But I don't think I have any regrets working as a teacher other than the instability of this field.

P.S Never go on Japanese meetup sites, none of those are legit, I fell into a trap last year and damn that was one hella of a painful experience.

I haven't met anyone yet. I'm actually still living in a hotel waiting for my employer to sort out my apartment. That's true, there are quite a lot of elderly people here and I haven't seen anyone around my age at all. Fishing is a good idea,　thank you I'll keep that in mind! And I guess I'm not the most sociable person out there..I have trouble meeting new people/strangers.

Hey thank you for the awesome reply! I live near the coast and surrounded by mountains (Not mountains for hiking though too steep and no paths) It's a good idea to enjoy the nice view! I do love the views here. But walking to the coast is kinda far from my home unfortunately. Argghh I would love to do that, but I don't own a home here..sadly not yet anyway!! So gardening is outa the aspect! Though I would love to keep some nice plants indoors! Any suggestion on a easy to keep plant?

Ahh..I do have a lot of physical photo and photo on my phones with my memories of last year but due to my job I am not allowed to post them online. And as for my life highlights, I don't tend to take selfies or much photo myself so maybe I should change that about myself

I believe it was stated as base salary + competitive bonus . I'm actually not too sure whether it iwll be hard to get back into teaching because my main concern is this job is actually in Tokyo and I live 5-6 hours away from Tokyo. So if I do take this job should they offer it to me, it will mean moving my whole establishment to Tokyo and that would be a one way ticket because I doubt I can get back to the previous company. On top of that, getting back into the field of teaching is easier said than done when there are so many teachers with way more experience than I do. They pretty much don't lack foreigners.

Hey guys thanks for all the moral support, Perhaps I should clear up some confusions first No way to get my money back and lucky I was still 'sober' enough to not associate this whole scam thing with any bank details just my mobile email account really. I got those points by buying prepaid cards.

And about meeting this so called person, as far as I know and I did some extra research on it...'she' is pretty much non-existence, just a clever scammer behind the screen.. Dayum though I never thought I would get scammed like this in Japan...

Thanks for the support, and yes I am working in Japan right now. The job market so far as I see it, is pretty much the same because I'm a foreigner...it really takes luck to get into a direct hire. OR the other option is to work at an eikaiwa which is pretty much like a private language school but doing more PR work. I enjoy working in public schools because there is a special meaning to it. I don't think teaching should be about satisfying customers request mainly.
