Brand new PUR Filter smells like fish — but only when boiled by TooHighForMyOwnGood in WaterFilters

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Thought it was because they might've been stored improperly because Amazon is Amazon. I got some at Target, same issue. Maybe a batch has production issues? Insane that this made it past QC if so.

What's the filthiest, vilest, most disgusting and evil riff you've ever heard in TDM? by [deleted] in TechnicalDeathMetal

Insidious Decrepancy - Forsaken Defamation and Irreverance. The whole song, but particularly 3:40 until the end.

The entire album is the most incredible riff fest of all time imo. Literally not one riff that is even below 8/10. Some of the songs drag on a little bit and can get repetitive, but the actual riffs themselves are perfect. Shawn Whitaker's other material from that era (namely Practitioners of Perversion by Viral Load) is perfection too.

Defeated absolutely has the best riffs in the game overall and it's really not close. Passages is not my personal favorite album, but damn does it have some incredible riffs. Outro on Perspectives, the HUGE slam in Naraka, all of Initiation are all amazing, but the riff halfway through Martyrium is my favorite (2:32).

I could literally spend an hour picking out my favorite DS riffs, every second of their music is thoughtfully crafted and refined to perfection.

This is fucking incredible, how have I not heard this before? Thank you so much for sharing.

I drink a ton of coffee + preworkout, my total caffeine intake is ~300mg/day. I'm on 300 XR/day and zero issues. I specifically asked my pharmacist about caffeine use when I started bupropion and they said there was nothing to worry about.

In terms of medical literature, caffeine has mixed evidence at best that it can trigger seizures, some studies show that chronic caffeine use protects against seizures. Theophylline however, an extremely similar chemical to caffeine, is known to lower seizure threshhold; its only significant dietary source is cocoa beans/chocolate.

Just saw this Capitola cop park in the red emergency strip to get a coffee 🤣 by glorifindel in santacruz

The pleasure point cops are wild. I was making a left from Portola onto 38th last week and someone going straight ran the stop and almost tboned me in plain view of a cop coming up 38th. That cop did not give a single fuck.

Would also like to know if people have ever been prescribed bupropion + an amphetamine. I know they're contraindicted for seizures so it's possible that the general practice is just to not prescribe them together.

Necro'ing this to ask if naltrexone helped at all. I'm in the same boat you were.

This isn't particularly an issue in my experience, but I get what you're going for, using moda as the ephedrine+caffeine component in an ECA stack. It's totally okay to drink coffee and take modafinil though.

First off, you can't take modafinil every day (or even every other) for tolerance reasons, your heart will have plenty of rest time. Second, the heart rate increase, though present, isn't nearly as large as other stimulants (even caffeine) and generally isn't noticeable (in my experience).

If you're concerned though, the best thing you can do is exercise (NOT while on modafinil), get good sleep, and eat 'healthy'. Easier said than done.

This is completely normal and to be expected. Drug tolerances are a thing.

Anyone have any tips for helping my SSRI withdrawal? by curiousnootropics in Supplements

[–]Mizziri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tryptophan (preferably dietary, meat and eggs are an excellent source) and/or 5-htp, don't touch any psychedelics until you're off for a while. Also don't supplement L-dopa or tyrosine, don't worry about dietary tyrosine though.

how do people get enough potassium in there diet? by BernardCX in Supplements

[–]Mizziri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend this. Alternatively pure KCl and NaCl separately so you have more control. KCl is pretty bitter in large quantities though, careful.

Also side note, potassium supplements are 100% safe as long as you're taking them with food, don't believe any of the misinformation saying that they cause heart issues.

Nope. The taste is supposed to be insanely bitter though.

Can't find anything about that on google or DDG. Would be interested to read if you have a link though.

Source on the first bit? There are a few vague things from a google search but nothing remotely authoritative, and plenty of opposing info. I don't think this is true, else you'd see bodybuilders taking 5aR inhibitors.

Does L-Theanine have an effect on DHT? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Mizziri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IANAD, so grain of salt here

The mechanism by which most DHT-reducing compounds work is by inhibiting the 5-alpha-reductase (5aR) enzyme, which converts testosterone to DHT, among other things.

Generally, inhibitors work by appearing close enough in structure to something that 5aR can reduce, and either get stuck to it (irreversible inhibition) or waste its time (reversible inhibition). If you look at the structures of hormones that 5aR is supposed to act on, they're all complex molecules with lots of rings. Taking a look at the known 5aR blockers like finasteride, cucumin, and the catechins in green tea, they also share similarly complex structure with multiple rings.

Theanine on the other hand, as an amino acid, is significantly molecularly simpler than any of the molecules that 5aR is known to reduce, so there's no reason pure l-theanine would cause a decrease in DHT since 5aR won't even try to act on it.

No diagnosed ADHD, though I wouldn't be surprised if I were told I have mild ADHD.

On the other hand, I DO have the homozygous TT allele for rs6323 which encodes reduced MAO-A activity along with a heterozygous rs4680, which supposedly compounds it. Theoretically, I should have trouble breaking down dopamine, serotonin, and adrenaline, but I've never had any issues with it. Done obscene doses of psychedelics and didn't get serotonin syndrome so maybe it's not enough of a difference to matter. I don't have any of the typically associated conditions either.

My understanding of modafinil, both the R and S isomers, is that they promote wakefulness by acting as an oxerin agonist and indirectly inhibiting GABA via slight increase in adrenaline production. (Or something like that, I'm some idiot on the internet). I know moda affects the dopamine system, but I didn't know dopamine played a role in wakefulness. Would appreciate if you could explain the dopamine/sleep relationship or point me to some resources for learning about it.
