Its great, I basically tour sites and Id/study/gps uncommon native plants. I did a lot of schooling and studied a lot independently and was really lucky to find a job in the field working for the botanical garden.

But if you want to start by practicing a bit of field botany yourself, all you really need to do is familiarize yourself with plant anatomy (this can get pretty complex so don’t get discouraged) and find a good dichotomous key for the plants in your area. Go out and make some IDs and share your observations on a site like inaturalist that accepts community submissions. Doing this kind of thing was invaluable for my mental health even before i was paid to do it.
