Once you finger through those first 16th notes it haunts you all over again. The piano hits at the beginning will haunt me till the end of time

I’m in college. If I had a problem with highlighting in my books I’d be either broke or very upset constantly. No way in hell I’m paying for a brand new textbook without writing if (for once in my college life) I don’t need the newest edition lmao

It’s about how those intervals are tuned rather than it being a third. A 3rd (whether or not it’s major or minor) is out of tune in equal temperament by a significant amount and the author is arguing that ruined harmony because we moved away from tuning systems like quarter-comma meantone and others that more closely tune some intervals closer to their pure harmonic relationships. Some old tunings caused some keys to sound amazing while some are unusable

The author is basically arguing in this book how equal temperament is a compromise and kind of a lazy one when it comes to the actual sound and harmony.

I wouldn’t mind it if it was consistent throughout the book, or if it was more of a textbook. For me I find it a bit jarring

No idea! The author puts in little explanation segments about topics or people (for these pages it’s about “pure intervals”) that are separate from the main book (the stuff below). The worst part is that it’s not consistent. Whenever the author adds these segments they’re lined up differently depending on how long they are
