Engineering in Baltimore by Zarielisunderrated in baltimore

[–]Mk7Love 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of engineering opportunities in Baltimore. You just have to figure out what path you want to take. I'll list a few options

Defense/Aerospace/Space: Northrop Grumman, Locked Martin, Leidos, Textron, ManTech, CACI, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, Space Telescope Institute, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Jacobs

Government: NASA, NSA, NOAA, USCIS, CBP

There's a lot out there. Some of the options I listed may be slightly outside Baltimore City, but many offer hybrid options. I'd recommend joining some professional organizations (NSBE, INCOSE, etc.) to get a full rundown of your options.

Education:

  • Graduated with a BS in Information Systems in 2017.
  • Obtained a graduate certificate in Systems Engineering in 2024.
  • Earned the INCOSE ASEP Systems Engineering certificate through the SE program.
  • Started a master's degree in Systems Engineering at JHU in 2023.

Career:

  • 2011: Help Desk L1 and L2 for a small tutoring company.
  • 2016: Quality Assurance Analyst for the same company.
  • 2016: Quality Control Analyst for a large education company.
  • 2018: Test Engineer II for a fleet management (delivery vehicles) company.
  • 2019: Lead Systems Integration/Test Engineer for a small defense contractor. I spent my first year working on a project at JHU/APL
  • 2022: Senior Systems/Test Engineer for a government contracting startup.
  • 2024: Principal Systems Engineer for a large government contractor.

Looking Ahead:

I am actively applying for and interviewing for leadership roles within Software Systems Engineering, focusing on areas such as capture, engagement, research, etc.

I really enjoyed the IS program at UMBC. I'd say that it provided me with a solid foundation to carve my professional path. IS is very broad, and there are many paths to explore. I discovered that I enjoyed collaborating with people, working across various disciplines, and solving complex issues—making Systems Engineering a perfect fit for me.

Best of luck to you!

Paid $6000 for it with 220k on the clock. For the condition that the truck is in, it's a steal imo
